Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Will I keep my 2yr upgrade voucher if I cancel my VA Rewards+ card?

  • 3 posts

    Hi all,

The £160 annual fee is due on my VA Rewards+ card in August. I would prefer to cancel the card as I don’t want to pay the £160 (I haven’t travelled since Covid but I might do so in 2024).

If I cancel the card before the annual fee is taken – will I still receive the upgrade voucher to use within the next two years (2023-2025)? I have spent the necessary £10k on the card, in the last year.

Help gratefully received (responses from Virgin Money Credit Card agents are variable in knowledge).

    Many thanks
    Shalini

Yes you keep the voucher. It exists in your Virgin Atlantic account, not your CC (virgin money) account.

It’s valid for 2 years from the day it was issued.

Do be aware that Virgin Money aren’t anywhere near as flexible as, say, AmEx in taking existing customers back. If you plan to close, then re-open in short order (I think up to two years), then you might get stuck when they decline you.

If you cancel officially its 6 months to get another bonus
I’ve done it twice (ie on my 3rd card) havent had a problem although my credit limit has reduced each time (now £3.5k) but that may be part of tightening regulations. never had a problem with vouchers after cancelling

Hi all, thanks for the comments. I cleared the outstanding payment, and closed my account before the annual fee was due and after I received confirmation that I was due an upgrade voucher with two years to use. So all worked out ok. I’m now going to wait six months to open the no-fee virgin mastercard – one for 2024. If I need to wait longer so be it. Thanks again.
