Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic You can upgrade K class with the voucher

Just thought I’d point this out in case it was useful for anyone since I’ve not seen it specifically mentioned. Normally K class ( lowest premium economy ) isn’t upgradable using points… however you CAN upgrade using the credit card voucher. This has just proven extremely useful since I’ve upgraded two homeward flights from MIA -> LHR to UC for £320 each vs over £800 each cash offered at check in ( or a massive £2800 EACH in the weeks before! )

Sounds a very good deal to me! So you paid full price for K and then I assume the additional taxes to take to UC?

I’ve just booked LHR to SFO return with the voucher for 65k miles (PE miles) and £1k taxes which is an (apparent) saving of £3k from the cash price

Yep, two K class returns then upgraded the return leg of both using a voucher… £320 per person in additional charges. Obviously £320 one way in additional charges over and above PE is pricey as has been commented on in the VA forums many times, but in comparison to the cash upgrade price ( which when I did this was showing as just over £3200 EACH for the return leg ) it’s almost free 🙂

Hopefully you’ll be on the A350-1000 and not the 787-9, I’ve got myself on both one in and one out so can see the difference. I’ve heard and seen that the 787-9 is more of a business class than upper / first
