Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards

Marriott Rewards is the loyalty scheme for Marriott, Renaissance, Ritz-Carlton, AC and Courtyard hotels amongst others. You earn points which can be used for free nights or transferred into frequent flyer miles including Avios points. Ritz-Carlton Rewards is the same scheme but with a different membership card and different branding on its website!

I published an extensive two-part review of Marriott Rewards which can be found here and here. The latest promotions can be found on our 'Hotel Promos' page.

Two things about Marriott Rewards that I am growing to love

Long-term readers of Head for Points will know that I have not been the greatest fan of Marriott Rewards although I have always acknowledged that people who commit enough to earn top-tier status (75 nights!) are well treated. My main problems have always revolved around: the […]

Bits: “AmEx Seeks to Weed Out Credit-Card Churners Chasing Rewards”, Marriott credit card returning?

News in brief: “AmEx Seeks to Weed Out Credit-Card Churners Chasing Rewards” Bloomberg ran this headline last week.  The good news is that it focuses on the US market and not the UK market although presumably the sentiment is a global one. The odd thing, […]

How is the Marriott / Starwood merger for you? News from Loyalty 2017

As I mentioned yesterday, I am at the Loyalty 2017 conference for three days this week.  The most interesting session from Day 2 was a presentation by the head of Marriott Rewards on the integration between that scheme and Starwood Preferred Guest. Here is a […]

Is a 35% bonus on hotel point transfers to Avios a good deal?

It was due a return and now it is back.  I’m talking about the ‘bonus when you transfer your hotel loyalty points to British Airways Avios‘ promotion. The ba.com page for the offer can be found here. The bonus is usually 25%.  This time, as they did in […]

An exceptional SPG / Marriott redemption deal in the Middle East

In the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah, a modest drive from Dubai, is a luxury tent and villa resort in the desert.  Called Al Wadi Desert (home page here) it used to be run by Banyan Tree which gives you an idea of how upmarket it […]

Why transferring hotel points to a friend is good (but airline miles are bad)

Most frequent flyer schemes allow you to pay to transfer miles to a friend.  It is usually a terrible deal.  The price is often only modestly cheaper than buying miles outright but no new miles are being created – you are paying a high fee simply for […]

The Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card has a new benefit – double points (2 per £1) on all stays at Starwood and Marriott properties. One of the biggest complaints about the Starwood Amex in the past is that you didn’t get any sort of bonus […]

Use your Marriott or SPG status on United Airlines (and vice versa) via RewardsPlus

The merger between Starwood and Marriott – and the fact that you can now status match between the two chains – means that members also have access to a couple of interesting airline tie-in deals. In 2013 the Starwood hotel group and Delta Airways announced a […]
