Bits: 10% BA Diamond Club discount is back, get 30% off in the Accor hotel summer sale

News in brief:

The BA Diamond Club discount is back

Well, here’s a surprise.  At the end of May, the 10% discount on British Airways flights offered to holders of the old bmi British Midland credit cards stopped working.

We had all forgotten that the discount was actually mean to end around that time, since we had been given well over 12 months notice.

Well, the link is working again.  Log in at www.diamondclub.org, click through the big banner ad to ba.com and you will see your flights pricing up with a 10% discount.

I don’t know how long the deal will last but it is worth using whilst you can.  Thanks to Richard.

Accor summer sale is now on

Accor Hotels has been running a sale for its Sofitel, Pullman, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, Ibis Styles and Ibis Budget brands for a few weeks now.

It slipped through the HfP net originally but, as we have only just entered into the stay period – stays need to be made between 4th July and 11th September – now is a good time to mention it.

The sale covers Accor hotels in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Austria.

Discounts are up to 30% off Best Flexible Rates – although the sale rates must be pre-paid – and an additional discount is given to members of Le Club AccorHotels.

Full details can be found on the Accor website here.  The last day to book is 4th September.

When it went people said that non card holders could get the discount. So how?

    • jonboy73 says:

I may be wrong but I understood the original deal was for premium (paid for) BMI card holders, but someone commented that it had been working for the standard(free) BMI card holders too. I wish I had known that, I only have the free card and could have made good use of 10% discount! will have to try it now it’s back…

Booked a hotel using this the other day…

Are there any good Accor status offers/promos/matches?

    • Rob says:

No big global promo at present. Gold status can be yours for €100 by joining Ibis Business Club – article if you search. Statusmatcher.com will have latest match info.

Have stayed at Novotel and Ibis Blackfriars this year. Expected to wish I was next door when we had the Ibis this Saturday but it was fine. Got early check in and a large glass of wine each thanks to Platinum from Amex. Room on 11th floor was basic but still had Nespresso machine. Short walk from Waterloo, I think you walk further underground if you get the tube.

    • Rob says:

      Nespresso at an Ibis? Blimey.

    • Londonbus says:

Zoe – the Southwark tube is much closer. Out of the main exit. turn left. 10 mins up Blackfriars Road – on the right.

Thanks for the news about the return of the DC discount. I’ve used it to book positioning flights to OSL (in CE – gulp!) for our QR OSL-CPT. I combined the DC discount and used 30k Avios. The discount meant a cash saving of about £50 on the Avios-reduced fare. Almost enough to put down a deposit on a couple of beers in town …

I wonder if the return of the DC offer has anything to do with the BREXIT/increase sales mentality you’ve already mentioned.

I think I need to bring forward booking a couple more ET and possibly CE fares, given that the sale and use Avios offers are due to expire.

  • Roger says:

Thinking back, I think the discount was on the fare before the Avios reduction. 🙂

Would combine with the discounts/ conditional spends many of us got last week, my wife got £6 off £40, I got £8 off £40. Not meant to be used as such – no giftcards allowed – but I’ve never been challenged, just stick a few groceries on your belt and the checkout agent will forget the rule.

    • Genghis says:

Yep. Gift cards first then groceries. They may forget about the gift cards by the time you come to payment and produce your coupon…

  • MarkC62 says:

Closed my BMI CC years ago when BA took over BMI & used to get 10% BA shareholder discount anyway – then we lost that – thanks a lot BA! I still have DC account though & the link worked fine – thanks Richard. No mention as far as I can see of having to use a DC CC to get the discount though. Is there a catch I’ve not noticed?

    • Richard says:

No catch as far as I can see. As long as you follow the link from the DC account, you can pay with any card…

  • Rob says:

Thanks, will fill a slot later in the week post Amazon Prime Day
