How to win 100,000 Virgin Atlantic miles with Hertz car rentals

As you can see on the Virgin website here, most Hertz rentals earn 1,000 Virgin Flying Club miles.
This is a very good return for a short rental, although if you are renting for a week a partner offering a small number of miles per day may be more lucrative.
