…. Marriott Bonvoy, it seems.  Which is a bit odd.

The name is, of course, a play on ‘bon voyage’.  Whilst there has been no official announcement, if you do a Google search for ‘Marriott Bonvoy’ you will find some trademark registration websites which show various recent Marriott filings under that name.

What appeared to be a Marriott test site was also accessible for a few hours last week.  It reportedly shows that Platinum Premier Elite will be renamed Titanium Elite whilst those on 100+ nights and with $20,000+ of spend will be called Ambassador Elite.  This means that Marriott Bonvoy will have FIVE elite levels:

  • Silver Elite (10-24 nights)
  • Gold Elite (25-49 nights)
  • Platinum Elite (50-74 nights)
  • Titanium Elite (75-99 nights)
  • Ambassador Elite (100+ nights and $20k of annual spend)

In reality, benefits are very similar once you hit Platinum Elite, with the upgrades and the guaranteed 4pm check-out kicking in.

To be honest, I had my money on ‘Marriott Preferred Guest’ or even ‘Marriott Rewards’ (ie no change) but it seems I underestimated Marriott.

Don’t forget that some nasty changes will happen to the Bonvoy redemption chart in January.  The new top category launches AND peak date pricing begins.  This means that the top redemption price jumps from 60,000 points per night to 100,000 points.

    Very bad news on DT Westminster. It wasn’t a very nice lounge but a good selection of snacks and booze in the evening ensured it was very popular. This was my favourite Hilton property in London but I’ll not be back now. What are the alternatives for a faily central property with a lounge that are usually in the 45-55k/night range? I’m not convinced Trafalger or Conrad are worth an extra 20k.

        Hilton Canary Wharf wins every time for me. Excellent lounge, lovely rooms and it’s right on the Jubilee Line. Oh and the breakfast is delicious.

    No great loss, IHMO, at the DoubleTree Westminster, as the lounge is little more than a breakfast bar with no real comfortable seating available. The hotel is generally good though and the City Suites can be very reasonably priced for a central London Hilton property, some with a (slightly restricted) river view, especially in the Hilton sales.

      I booked Westminster specifically because it’s one of the few Hilton properties with a lounge. After trawling around several UK Hilton’s with my Diamond Status I discover the automatic lounge access is useless because there aren’t many in the UK. And when there isn’t a lounge the front desk won’t even give you a drinks voucher. So my experience of Diamond status is to not bother with Hilton any more for UK stays. Aside from Tower Bridge and Bankside Is there anything in central London that is worth bothering with?

        Metropole is not bad. The lounge is pretty big, though it gets crowded. The rooms are okay, too, since they generally give you a renovated one with a view over London. Close to Paddington and Edgware Road. I actually like Hilton Olympia’s lounge, though the unrefurbished rooms are old-fashioned there. The rates are always extremely low, unless there is an event on at Olympia. Park Lane has a good lounge, too.

        I disagree entirely, there are heaps of London Hiltons and DTs with Executive lounges, much more so than you will find in USA. DT Tower of London and Hilton Tower Bridge are good examples centrally and personally I like the Hilton Wembley which is only 25 mins on Met line and often cheap as chips. Pity they have built flats right across the front of hotel tho!

          According to the Hilton app ….In London it’s 15 Hilton’s of various brands with lounges out of an inventory of 33 properties so thanks for making me look at the facts. So it will be 14 out of 33 next year…(assuming you count Croydon as London). So you’re right there’s probably enough but essential to check before booking.

        It was interesting to read the comment about so few Hiltons having an Executive Lounge. This experience has resonated with my own, foolishly I had believed all Hiltons would have a lounge and that my Diamond status would enable me to benefit from these. However, having booked many times across the country, I have been frustrated that most Hiltons do not have a lounge.

        As someone else has done, I did a quick check on the app and found that only 26 across the UK do have a lounge. If 15 of those are in London that leaves only 11 across the rest of the UK.

    Good grief! I do wonder sometimes exactly how much time & money that these corporations spend on the likes of focus groups and branding specialists to come up with such ridiculous names! Unfortunately it’s often people that don’t use a brand, nor have any real experience of it, that come up with these names.

      I was outraged when my university spent something like £1m getting rid of its impressive, historical heraldic crest. What they came up with was “Imperial College London” in 2-tone Arial font. Nothing short of a scandal!

        My university spent a colossal amount re-branding itself 30-odd years ago when I was there. They went for a simple design, it was effectively exactly as if somebody had got a highlighter and done a wavy squiggle through the name. £300K to you, sir.

            When I was in the City we paid £25k to redesign our logo (works out at £1000 per full time employee at the time!). And then, a few years later when we wanted to tweak it, it turned out the contract was badly written and we didn’t actually own the logo – we were just leasing it – and had to hand over another £25k for a minor adjustment.

            I paid a guy in Romania £200 for the HFP logo ….

      After a long and presumably expensive review with a branding consultancy, my employer’s parent company came back with a new logo earlier this year. It was a very minor change to what we had before and was genius in its simplicity (read it was a basic change that a 5 year old could have come up with if given some coloured felt tip pens and the old logo).

        Got it 6x incl on Nectar.

        Not a big user of BP (on price) but this swings it. I usually put in a half tank of premium BP diesel every other month just to get the benefit of the additives, they do in my experience make a big difference to smooth running. Alternative being Redex system cleaner, which is also good and a cheaper method to essentially do the same thing.

        BPme: installed the app, payment methods & Nectar card details – Nectar offers come up including 500 Nectar points when you fill up & swipe within 14 days – I assume that includes using the BPme app.

        You might want to ask for (say) £31 not just £30, see FAQ

        Why did the pump stop before the amount I requested?
        Your tank may have reached full before we got to the amount you requested. If this wasn’t the case then there may have been a problem with the pump. However, on some sites, we may need to stop the pump a little bit before your requested amount so that we don’t go over. But don’t worry, you’ll only be charged for the amount of fuel pumped.

          The Morrisons at which I usually buy fuel gets listed on the credit card slip and on the bill as “Morrisons Petrol Filling Station” or “Morrisons PFS”, making the fact blindingly obvious.

          I was told by somebody at customer services the gift vouchers can be used for fuel. I haven’t tried yet, but if he was wrong I’ll insist on a refund, and I have retained the receipt in case. He was adamant they would work, and proud to have worked there for eleven years…we’ll see.

          I get around and (as supermarkets go), Morrisons beef is right up there with the best. Meat counter, pre-packaged meat, seafood – Morrisons pretty good. The only Big 4 supermarket to come out of horsemeat scandal smelling of roses.

      I fell foul on this recently. It’s not that they must have their own account, it’s that they must have an additional account.

      It is no longer possible to have Supp cards and main cards together. For example, I have Plat in my name and Gold as a Supp. For the Gold Supp I need to create a whole new online account/profile. This is new because only a few weeks ago I was able to do the same thing in reverse on my spouses account (She is primary Gold, added my Supp Plat).

      Personally, I can’t be bothered to run multiple accounts so I’ve put my Gold Supp straight in the bin and relayed as such to AMEX.

        You can add a supplementary card to a main account, I recently had this problem but managed to add my supplementary BAPP to my main account (currently BA blue) so avoiding having to make a new account.
