Totally separate to the British Airways cabin crew and pilot pay dispute, the Unite union has announced a series of six strikes by its workers at Heathrow.

These will cover:

  • Friday 26th July
  • Saturday 27th July
  • Monday 5th August
  • Tuesday 6th August
  • Friday 23rd August
  • Saturday 24th August

Unite covers over 4,000 employees at Heathrow, including security staff, engineers, shuttle drivers and ‘passenger service operatives’.  The strikes follow the rejection of an 18-month pay offer worth 2.7%.  It is not clear how much ground level support there is for the action or how strong the impact of a walk-out would be.

A Heathrow statement said:

“We are disappointed that Unite will be taking strike action. Following this decision, we will be implementing contingency plans that will ensure the airport remains open and operating safely throughout any coordinated action. We will be working alongside our airline partners to minimise disruption caused to passengers as they look towards their well-deserved summer holidays.”
