Whilst this has not been officially announced, British Airways is moving its Maldives flights to London Heathrow this Winter.

The service, which runs three times per week between November and March, will now depart and arrive from Heathrow Teminal 5 using a Boeing 777.

If you are booked on this service, you should double check your seat reservations since they may have changed.  It is now a four class service which means First Class is available.

Rob discussing coronavirus and aviation on BBC World News

I was on ‘Talking Business with Aaron Heslehurst’ on BBC World News yesterday, discussing coronavirus and its effects on the global aviation industry – or as much as you can discuss in 3 minutes.  Nothing like live TV in front of a few million people to keep you on your toes ….

Ironically, the only reason I was able to go on the BBC to discuss coronavirus is that the trade show I was meant to be attending in Berlin was cancelled …. due to coronavirus.

The video is here if you want to take a look.  If you can’t see it below, click here for our YouTube channel.

OT Avios.com I sign in using my Vueling details but keep getting the error message when trying to look at flights or combine avios.

    Any thoughts.

Hilton @ Gatwick, does anyone know what number range or floor the new section is under.
I see on the building plan an extension mezzanine area but not sure?

    • @mkcol says:

Sure the room numbers start with a 7 to indicate the extension.
However there are brand new refurbished rooms (stayed in one in January still smelling of new carpet & paint) at the exact opposite end of the building.

As I can’t see elsewhere in the comments – Tajikistan has backtracked on the ban, thankfully.

yes – now reduced to just “China, Iran, South Korea, Afghanistan and Italy” according to Reuters

20% cut off his basic pay? Wondering what proportion of his usual total remuneration including bonuses, pension contributions and fringe benefits, is his actual basic pay

    • Qrfan says:

He probably won’t get much of a bonus this year if things continue?

      • Lady London says:

Don’t bet on it. We are still talking a lot of money to be received. IM general O these things usually get made up one way or another even if not quite in same year.

This looks awfully like a prelude to staff taking forced ‘voluntary’ leave without pay, part time “opportunities” being “offered” to staff, etc. Laying the ground or someone big saying “Look folks I’m suffering too”.

With a bit of luck the coronavirus panic will be over soon despite its bringing a needed correction to the markets and things will settle down enough so that companies are not asking employees to reduce their normally prevailing terms of employment.

Good idea though, I think I should call a staff meeting tomorrow in response to the crash in affiliate revenue from hotel bookings!

leave Anika’s indefinite full pay maternity leave alone, if I were her I would go for the next kid ASAP 🙂

I was wondering how it would impact bloggers. The good thing with HfP is we can kind of carry on for a while without any actual travel being involved. On the upside BA may start pushing ad revenue in HfP’s direction the longer this progresses. The downside of course is three articles a day from Shoe about how he amassed his cat food mountain (only kidding Shoe 🙂

Rob/all – I am in need of 140 tier points to get BA silver. I need them in the next 2.5 months. Do you think it is worth waiting for a bit to see if they put any Helsinki flights on sale given the lack of people flying at the moment? Or are their any other cheap routes I could take?

    Any thoughts welcome! Thank you

    • Shoestring says:

have you had a good look at cash HEL flights in Business over next 10 weeks? they were under £200 just weeks ago with 3000 Avios earned (= £30 off) and all 4 Oneworld T3 lounges to enjoy

      have they gone up?

      • Craig says:

Yeah they seem to have. With one night in Helsinki looks like it will be closer to 300 if not more, or is there a better way to do it than one night in Helsinki? Just wondering what the chances of some sale prices coming in given the situation!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Sofia and Tirana are cheap pretty much all the time

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Maldives – accommodation advice or if anyone remembers when we last discussed in comments?

    • mr_jetlag says:

Still see £200 ish HEL fares on a few midweek flights. Could you nest an economy points redemption with a cash fare and travel twice?

  • Shoestring says:

PASSENGERS are “being turned away” and Flybe planes “are impounded at UK airports” — amid fears the ailing airline has collapsed.

Has FlyBe just ceased operating in front of my eyes? Waiting to board a FlyBe flight to Birmingham and all of their flights have just been cancelled. Advice from staff is FlyBe “definitely will not be flying out tomorrow either.” @itvnews

      • Shoestring says:

not that I do Twitter – just want to make that clear 🙂

Multiple reports now from all over the country, looks like it’s all over.

          • Shoestring says:

Devon Live has been told tonight that a flight bound for Devon has been grounded.
One of those on board the plane currently sat on the runway at Manchester Airport is Phil Hoult.
Phil, who lives in Exeter, said: “I’m stuck on a plane at Manchester Airport. The captain has told us we won’t be flying anywhere and I think we’re going to be kicked out with nowhere to go.
“We think it’s because of Flybe not being able to pay the airport fees but there’s no regard for any passengers.
“The flight is full, maybe 200 people and it’s very hot. We’ll probably get pussycat virus as well, it’s that bad.”

  • Roy says:

OT Gatwick North lounges. Should I:
    * Pay £5 to guarantee entry to No 1
    * Try for Aspire or MyLounge on spec
    * Pay £15 for Clubrooms (although if it’s one item from the menu and *no* buffet then I’m reluctant – we need a review, Rob!)
    * Avoid the lounges and go somewhere else

    • Shoestring says:

sounds like you have PP or similar – for £5 variable cost, you guarantee a comfortable lounge and relaxing start to your trip – £5 surely won’t break the bank?

      • Roy says:

Sorry, Amex Plat, so yes, PP. Am certainly willing to pay £5 to guarantee a seat in a lounge – and probably willing to pay £15 if the lounge is worth it.

My reason for asking is the large number of commenters who express highly negative opinions of No 1 Gatwick North.

        • Roy says:

Yes, but I wanted to know about the catering!

Academic now as a change of plans means I will now be flying out of LHR instead, so can rely on Plaza Premium.
