  • BJ says:

I posted a code on the chat article last night that reduces these costs further. Inverness is not on the list, probably taking in the money.

    • Vit says:

I was looking at Inverness to stay for either at the start or the end of our NC500 planning Road trip. 😒

      • BJ says:

Premier Inn Inverness West is often one of their cheapest and is good. They have also added an extension in the past year so you might get new rooms. An adjoining Beefeater has breakfast deals which are likely less expensive than adding it to the hotel. There is a restaurant near the rail station, George’s IIRC, in a basement selling various types of food including Thai. It seems one of the most unlikely places to get good Thai food but it isn’t, they have Thai chef and she is good, proper Thai taste, no pandering to the western palate with to little chilli and too much sugar. Will post details later for you when I can confirm.

        • Blindman says:

I’d be interested too as I’m planning a NC500 trip at the end of this month

          • BJ says:

Enjoy, it’s great. Seafood Shack in Ullapool is also good place to eat. It is a shack, takeaway only, they have tables if weather is nice.

        • BJ says:

George’s, 19 Queensgate. Not a great ambiance for dining in, we used it as a takeaway.

        • Vit says:

Haha! Cheers BJ. We will have a look. Keen on doing some camping as well as long as the weather is not as crazy as last night / early this morning!

    • Blindman says:

Can you post it again as the search function is useless.

      Ta

      • Blindman says:

        • BJ says:

Just beat me to it, welcome.

          • Lady London says:

I’m wondering if this will encourage Hilton branded hotels in the same locations to keep their rates down! like you BJ I am hoping Hilton might come up with something sometime soon.

    • Riccatti says:

How can you use the code “to reduce the costs further” if you have to email Travelzoo to make a booking with their voucher?

      • BJ says:

When buying the voucher I guess.

@Lady London. Agreed, Hilton so frustrating. I’ve locked in IHG and Marriott stays that would otherwise go to Hilton. Flexible though, so could still change if they get their act together.

    • Ben says:

Spent ten minutes looking for this code you mention but nowhere to be seen! Can you do us a favour and repost here?

  • Michael C says:

So….you have to buy the voucher, THEN see if there’s any availability, right?

    • BJ says:

Yes, and you need to do it by email I think.

    • Brian says:

Sounds like a bit of a faff

      • Andy says:

Total faff just to get a free breakfast. The property I looked at was £49 to book direct.

      • Rob says:

Difficult to see why there wouldn’t be availability, though, as long as the hotel is open and it’s not a special event (which is unlikely, as there are no special events!).

    • flyoff says:

I have used one. You can email them and check availability. I had no issue getting dates over the August Bank Holiday where the rates were much higher than buying the voucher.

  • Erico1875 says:

Edinburgh, Leonardo Murrayfield is nowhere near Murrayfield! Its at the top of Clermiston which is quite near Corstorphine. Murrayfield is quite a treck

  • Simon says:

Jury’s Croydon is very close to the midplatform entrance to East Croydon station (with a small coop food shop en route). Would work well for Gatwick.

  • WaynedP says:

Thank you for code @BJ, I booked a one night voucher incl B&B for under £45, and emailed to request a Saturday night in September at JI Exeter for OH and me (daughter back to uni).

Got a polite response within 24 hours requesting “further information” in order to check availability, which is clearly a ruse for personal data (name, address, telephone number and work or leisure trip).

Even though they are a bit naughty to ask for this information under false pretenses I don’t mind, as it’s information you provide on check-in anyway, and I always specify not to pass it to third parties, and to only use it for the purpose of our overnight stay, and then include a unique and innocuous spelling error in the address to prove if they ever intentionally breach GDPR, ha ha.

But one thing I did take advantage of is when they asked what type of room I’d like. Ordinarily I’d feel too cheeky at this price to consider getting anything other than basic and overlooking the car park bins, but seeing as they asked, I didn’t hold back and said that a suite upgrade would be lovely thanks, and went on to explain that on our regular visits we stay at one of the two Mercure hotels so will be interested to compare what JI has to offer on this, our first stay.

That will either get me absolutely nowhere (in which case nothing lost at under £45), or MrsdP and I could be in for a pleasant surprise, which I can brag about in a future post, ha ha.

Booking.com rates for basic std room at JI Exeter for the night are £59 w/o breakfast or £78 with, so happy days either way.
