Wizz Air launches a base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport

Wizz Air has decided to launch a dedicated base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

This means that an aircraft (just one, initially) will be stationed at the airport permanently, rather than Doncaster Sheffield being served by aircraft from other bases.

The upside of this is that Wizz can launch flights from Doncaster Sheffield to cities which are not existing Wizz Air bases.

From the last week of October, Wizz Air will be operating the following routes from Doncaster Sheffield Airport:

  • Doncaster Sheffield – Alicante, 3 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Faro, 2 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Kosice, 2 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Larnaca, 2 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Lublin, 3 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Malaga, 2 weekly
  • Doncaster Sheffield – Suceava, 2 weekly

You get a brownie point if you can correctly name all of the countries where these cities are located ….

Our review of the Premium Lounge at Doncaster Sheffield Airport is here if you decide to give it a try.

“Flights will depart from the North Terminal as the South Terminal will remain closed for the immediate future”

QR always did operate from LGW North Terminal anyway so nothing new in that respect.

  • Sideshow Bob says:

“You will need to pay for a minimum of 2 months of the Amazon Music Unlimited Individual Plan subscription.”

I wonder if this is in addition to the 2 months included?

  • Concerto says:

Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Cyprus, Poland, Spain, Romania.
    Without looking them up.

    • Louie says:

You definitely deserve a brownie point. I think (thought?) I was quite good at matching cities and countries, but I wasn’t even close.

      • Michael Jennings says:

I got them all without looking up. I’ve flown to all of them other than Lublin and Suceava, too.

    • Charlieface says:

I got them all, Suceava was a bit of an educated guess.

  • Donna says:

So good to hear some good news at long last, very excited about being able to fly to beautiful Suceava!

  • flyforfun says:

Like how Qatar has listed the 6 Australian and New Zealand cities that it flies to under it’s Asia heading……

  • Rob Collins says:

Flying from Doncaster/Sheffield is the least stressful experience amongst UK airports.

  • Sandra says:

I normally fly to Paphos as that is nearest to where my friend lives. Sometimes Tui from Doncaster if spare charter seats available but usually EasyJet (Manchester) – have never used Wizz, are they a reasonable airline to fly with bearing in mind at the other end the pick up is much further for my friend?

    • Tony says:

Flown Wizz air from Luton a good number of times. A typical LCC but never had an issue with service, cabin, crew or timeliness

    • ChrisW says:

They’re fine. Their edge has always been flying to lesser known airports in Eastern Europe for a very low price.
I prefer them to Ryanair but if flying to Spain or Portugal I would definitely pay a bit more to fly Easyjet, jet2 or Norwegian.
They charge separately for hand luggage which is annoying because the advertised price isn’t the advertised price. Staff seem slightly happier to work there than Ryanair.

      • Alex Sm says:

But it’s an industry standard now, no? After a few fat years of generosity all major LCC now reintroduced fees for large cabin bags

    • the_real_a says:

Cabin baggage fees are outrageous! Make sure you price them up to the end of booking. Otherwise new A320`s and the usual seats.

  • Sam says:

Does anybody know what we’re likely to be charged to add a suitcase to a return booking to Barcelona with Vueling?

Only need one between the two of us so don’t want to pay for ‘optima’ for both of us.
