Air Canada has announced that its seasonal flights between Edinburgh and Toronto will return for 2022.

The service will operate:

  • six times weekly from 1st June to 2nd October
  • four times weekly from 3rd October to 29th October

It will use a modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with three cabins – Economy, Premium Economy and what Air Canada calls ‘Signature Class’ with lie-flat beds.

As well as being convenient for connections to elsewhere in Canada, the airline also connects to 46 US cities from Toronto.

From Heathrow, Air Canada is currently operating flights to Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

Air Canada is a member of Star Alliance. Any redemption flights would need miles from a Star Alliance frequent flyer programme such as Lufthansa Miles & More or Singapore Airline Krisflyer, or of course Air Canada’s own Aeroplan. You can earn Aeroplan miles indirectly from UK credit cards as this HfP guide explains.

You can search exact flight times and dates on the Air Canada site here.

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards (April 2025)

None of the Star Alliance airlines currently have a UK credit card.

There is, however, still a way to earn Star Alliance miles from a UK credit card

The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to over 40 airlines at the rate of 3:1.

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 airline miles per £1 spent on the card.

There is a preferential conversion rate to United Airlines – which is a Star Alliance member – of 2 : 1 if you convert 60,000 Bonvoy points at once.

The Star Alliance members which are Marriott Bonvoy transfer partners are: Aegean, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines.

Does toilet paper count as bathroom supplies? I need a bulk purchase for work this week

    • John says:

If the listing is in the right ebay category it will count. You can ask smaller sellers to change the category…

  • JB says:

What’s up with Marriott redemptions? Every hotel I want to redeem points at is currently not accepting redemptions. I’m looking at UK and Italy/Austria. Luxury Collection, St Regis, Autograph Collection. None allow a 5 night redemption.

This seems extremely suspicious given the impending devaluation. The whole Bonvoy scheme and all the points I have collected are currently totally worthless to me. Bit of a scam really.

    • Will says:

It could be Marriott playing around or it could be people speculatively booking before the devaluation details come to light.

When it says “one buy it now item”Does this mean you can buy more than one of the same product. Or just one of that product up to maximum £300.

Bugger, just spend £330 on eBay 2 days ago 🙁

  • Gordon says:

Just made a purchase on eBay and it’s showing the standard nectar points earning at one per pound on the email confirmation but on the purchase page shows the bonus, But I guess it needs to kick in.

    • lev441 says:

hmmm I have the opposite.. Have 7475 on my payment confirmation page but the email that came through at 12.57, just have 299 nectar points on there…

      • gordon says:

Well I have a paper trail as proof if needed so not too fussed until it gets sorted.

  • Scott says:

If you have a Marriot offer on your amex ., £150 back for £500 spend , will buying points trigger this ?
