TfL is operating heritage Piccadilly Line services on the line across the 10th and 11th June to celebrate London Underground’s 160th birthday.

The special services will use 1938 rolling stock (some of which was still running until 1988) which has been restored to its art deco prime with red and green moquettes and vintage lighting.

TfL will operate four special services on both the Saturday and Sunday. Most journeys will operate as a round trip which starts and ends at Acton Town, with an intermediate stop at Heathrow Terminal 4. Some return legs will terminate at Northfields. The entire trip will take one hour.

These trains will not form part of the normal Picadilly line service to Heathrow but need to be booked separately on the London Transport Museum’s website. Tickets cost £28.50 for adults with reduced prices for concessions and children.

The website is a bit confusing and you can easily think that no tickets are remaining. In fact, whilst the ‘pink’ carriage is usually sold out, if you scroll down you should see availability for the yellow, orange and blue carriages.

    If you want to ride on an ancient tube train just get on the Bakerloo line at any time of day

        No – northern , central and metropolitan all have relatively modern stock. Mouse is correct that Bakerloo has the oldest stock introduced between 1972 and 1975 so approximately 50 years old. Piccadilly stock was introduced slightly later between 1975 and 1978. Central is much more recent being introduced between 1993 and 1995 with the Northern Stock following between 1997 and 2000. Metropolitan stock was introduced between 2010 and 2012.

    That’s incredibly short notice for Iberia to change terminals. What about people who have parked at T3 etc? And in addition to the very valid points about lounges, T5 is far less convenient than T3 for the Elizabeth Line with only two trains per hour and no direct trains at all from Canary Wharf any more.

    I see that my next Iberia booking has already been updated to show T5.

      I’ve just checked my booing e-mail, and it turns out that my next Iberia flight, unlike the last one, was always going from T5, not from T3.

        I’m off to Madrid on Saturday with Iberia, booked in December and it said then it was going from T5, so the notice has been there for at least six months…

          Thanks. That explains it. My Iberia flight last weekend was from T3 and my next one will be from T3. I had paid attention only to the first one, and assumed (without checking) that the next one would likewise be from T3. If HfP hadn’t pointed this out, then we might have gone to T3 for the next one as well!

    Glasgow’s 1970s heritage subway trains only cost £1.75 per trip 😉
    Appreciate them much more now that they are being replaced.

      I loved the subway and it was known as the shugglie before becoming the clockwork orange! I would spend a very happy afternoon playing truant and going all the way around the line, before jumping off and going all the way back again. Happy carefree days!!

      Merkland street was my favourite station later renamed Partick.

      As for TfL…..really just run the thing right without the faff of this over priced nonsense!!

        Bahrain, Bermuda and Nassau (with associated Grand Cayman and Providenciales) are moving T5 to T3 the same day.

      I had an email last week to say they were moving our BA Austin flights from T3 to T5 – there was a list of half a dozen destinations on it.

    My last trip to the Qantas lounge was slightly underwhelming because the restaurant downstairs wasn’t open until the evening. The only food was the buffet which isn’t huge. It’s still a nice space.

      I think perspective is always important here. My last visit to the QF lounge was when I flew EY to AUH last year. They had only just struck a deal to use that lounge a few days before I flew – before that it was the significantly more underwhelming Plaza Premium lounge.

      Yes the restaurant was closed, but no it didn’t spoil my experience!
