easyJet offering home luggage collection for Gatwick flights – and it’s free for FLEXI customers

easyJet has launched a luggage collection service at London Gatwick, in conjunction with luggage handler Airportr.
What is impressive is that this service is FREE for easyJet FLEXI fare customers. An Airportr driver will come to your home or office and collect your luggage, and you won’t see it again until you land at your destination.
If you’re not on a FLEXI fare you can pay for the service, with a 30% discount being offered for the first 300 bookers.

Airportr launched in 2016, initially working with British Airways at London City. It claims to have collected over 250,000 bags and pieces of sports equipment since then. Apparently 96% of customers have said that they are likely to recommend the service to others.
There are three services on offer from London Gatwick (and also, in this initial trial, Geneva):
Airportr will collect your bag and you won’t see it again until you land
Passengers flying from London Gatwick or Geneva can have their luggage collected from their office, home or hotel.
Airportr will handle the check-in process for your luggage. You won’t see it again until you reach the luggage belt at your destination.
The coverage area isn’t clear. You need to put a postcode into the box on the website here and you will be told if you are covered.
In Geneva, your bag can be delivered to you – walk straight out of the airport
If you are flying into Geneva on easyJet – from any airport, not just London Gatwick – you can ask Airportr to pick up your bag from the luggage belt and deliver it to your home or office.
You can walk straight out of the airport on landing.
A door-to-door service for Gatwick to Geneva passengers
If you are flying on easyJet from London Gatwick to Geneva, you can combine the two services above.
Airportr will collect your luggage in advance of your flight and you won’t see it again until it arrives at your hotel or office in Geneva.
What does it cost?
This service is FREE if you book an easyJet FLEXI fare which is exceptionally good value.
If you are travelling on a standard easyJet ticket, you can book for cash. The first 300 customers will receive 30% off their booking by using the code 30OFFAIRPORTRLAUNCH.
As an example, I priced up a booking from South Kensington to London Gatwick. For one suitcase, I was quoted – before the 30% discount – £50 if I was willing to accept a 3-hour pick-up window or £65 for a 1-hour pick-up window.
easyJet is definitely upping its game at London Gatwick. Not only does it have a lounge (we reviewed The Gateway lounge here) but you can now have your luggage collected in advance. Both the lounge and luggage collection are free for FLEXI passengers. It adds to the pressure on BA Euroflyer, which competes with easyJet on 28 of its 29 routes this winter. (The first person to comment below with the Euroflyer route with no easyJet competition wins an aura of smugness.)
You can find out more, and book, on the Airportr website here.
