easyJet offering home luggage collection for Gatwick flights – and it’s free for FLEXI customers

easyJet has launched a luggage collection service at London Gatwick, in conjunction with luggage handler Airportr.

What is impressive is that this service is FREE for easyJet FLEXI fare customers. An Airportr driver will come to your home or office and collect your luggage, and you won’t see it again until you land at your destination.

If you’re not on a FLEXI fare you can pay for the service, with a 30% discount being offered for the first 300 bookers.

Airportr launches Gatwick luggage pickup with easyJet

Airportr launched in 2016, initially working with British Airways at London City. It claims to have collected over 250,000 bags and pieces of sports equipment since then. Apparently 96% of customers have said that they are likely to recommend the service to others.

There are three services on offer from London Gatwick (and also, in this initial trial, Geneva):

Airportr will collect your bag and you won’t see it again until you land

Passengers flying from London Gatwick or Geneva can have their luggage collected from their office, home or hotel.

Airportr will handle the check-in process for your luggage. You won’t see it again until you reach the luggage belt at your destination.

The coverage area isn’t clear. You need to put a postcode into the box on the website here and you will be told if you are covered.

In Geneva, your bag can be delivered to you – walk straight out of the airport

If you are flying into Geneva on easyJet – from any airport, not just London Gatwick – you can ask Airportr to pick up your bag from the luggage belt and deliver it to your home or office.

You can walk straight out of the airport on landing.

A door-to-door service for Gatwick to Geneva passengers

If you are flying on easyJet from London Gatwick to Geneva, you can combine the two services above.

Airportr will collect your luggage in advance of your flight and you won’t see it again until it arrives at your hotel or office in Geneva.

What does it cost?

This service is FREE if you book an easyJet FLEXI fare which is exceptionally good value.

If you are travelling on a standard easyJet ticket, you can book for cash. The first 300 customers will receive 30% off their booking by using the code 30OFFAIRPORTRLAUNCH.

As an example, I priced up a booking from South Kensington to London Gatwick. For one suitcase, I was quoted – before the 30% discount – £50 if I was willing to accept a 3-hour pick-up window or £65 for a 1-hour pick-up window.

easyJet is definitely upping its game at London Gatwick. Not only does it have a lounge (we reviewed The Gateway lounge here) but you can now have your luggage collected in advance. Both the lounge and luggage collection are free for FLEXI passengers. It adds to the pressure on BA Euroflyer, which competes with easyJet on 28 of its 29 routes this winter. (The first person to comment below with the Euroflyer route with no easyJet competition wins an aura of smugness.)

You can find out more, and book, on the Airportr website here.

LGW-ALG is only flown by BA!

    • Rob says:

Well done Mojo. BrianN – sorry, Mojo’s comment was in moderation as a first time poster but he beat you to it!

      • Nick says:

I’m going to steal the smugness back by pointing out that LGWALG is actually not operated by Euroflyer because they’re not (yet) on the UK-Algeria ASA. There’s a backend fudge where a BAEF aircraft is temporarily leased to BA Mainline for each rotation.

You can see this yourself on FR24, it operates with a BAW (Speedbird) call sign rather than a EFW one, and there’s no onboard disclosure from the pilot specifying Euroflyer.

Should change next year when the rights are transferred.

    Algiers

I’m liking the sound of this. When are BA going to start being a decent airline again? Might even chance EasyJet again.

  • Worzel says:

I doubt that Bill will be interested in this service given his recent comment:

I honestly could not give a trouser leg about the charitable donation. At the end of the day, it’s an easyJet flight. Hardly worth the paper the advent box is made off

  • M3 says:

After the last two disastrous EasyJet flights I took (ridiculous issues with staff, lack of organisation and delightful customers) I will NEVER fly with easyJet again, no matter what they offer.

  • Richie says:

easyJet has the largest under seat free bag allowance and largest paid over head locker bag allowance of any LCC that operates flights to/ from Gatwick, avoiding checking a bag in is very well worth considering when flying easyJet.

    • flyforfun says:

I checked the difference in price between checked luggage and paid overhead locker bag on couple of flight I took recently and it was only around £5 to £10 more to check your bag in.

I know people stress about losing bags and getting out of the airport quicker, but I can offset that with not stressing about getting overhead space and not having to drag a case round with me through out the airport and inevitably up and down the aircraft steps and possibly onto a bus.

What’s the delivery range at Geneva end? Presumably not far enough for any of the closer ski resorts?

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

There is a map on the airportr website.

    • John says:

They do cover nearby (ish) ski resorts in Switzerland such as Verbier, but they understandably don’t cover all the closer ski resorts to Geneva which are in France. It would be great if they could sort out customs issues to cover these too.

      • iamlost says:

I’m impressed their ZRH service covers all of Switzerland!

        • Lady London says:

That will be done in conjunction with the Swiss Railways service which offers the same I suspect.

A great company and institution, Swiss Railways.

  • SammyJ says:

No mention of what areas they will collect from in the article or even somewhere obvious in their website? I’m guessing, because all things are assumed to be in London-shire, that it’s only the London area, but you’d think they’d have maps or something to give an indication rather than having to enter a postcode to be told computer says no. Stating on their site that they’ll collect from my home or office with no extra caveats about the area is absolutely not true!
