News in brief:
Hyatt Place to open near Paddington next year
A new Hyatt hotel has quietly appeared on the Hyatt website – Hyatt Place London Paddington.
The website is here.
From the address, it seems to be a conversion of the Norfolk Plaza Hotel on Norfolk Square.
The opening date is shown as 1st July 2024. We can only hope that the hotel is undergoing substantial refurbishment because, as the picture below shows, it looks a little scary in its current incarnation:
Marriott’s AC Hotels opens in Glasgow
Talking of hotels appearing without fanfare, AC Hotel Glasgow is now open.
AC Hotels was originally a Spanish mid-range hotel brand which Marriott acquired a few years ago. My impression is that it sits somewhere between (to use IHG comparisons) Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza
The hotel looks promising, notionally a four star and well situated next to George Square. It is primarily a new build property but incorporates the 120 year-old former Parish Halls.

Malmaison flash sale – from £85 with £50 F&B credit
Boutique hotel chain Malmaison is running a very interesting winter flash sale – see here.
The blurb says that rooms start from £100 per night (£160 in London) although I found some dates in Leeds at £85. The key thing is that all sale rooms include a £50 credit towards dinner (not breakfast or lunch) in the Mal bar and grill.
All of their UK hotels are taking part. Saturday nights are excluded except for London, Aberdeen, Cheltenham and Reading.
Sale rooms must be pre-paid and cannot be amended.
You can stay between 22nd December 2023 and 9th April 2024.
You must book by Friday 24th November. The offer will NOT be running over the weekend into Cyber Monday.
PS. This offer may (or may not, as it is prepaid) trigger the current American Express / Malmaison cashback offer we covered here
PPS. Sister brand Hotel du Vin has a similar offer – see here – and is also in an Amex cashback offer at the moment
