Virgin Atlantic and China Eastern codeshare announced

Virgin Atlantic’s only flight to the Far East is now its daily service to Shanghai, which restarted last year.

The airline has now announced a small codeshare agreement with its SkyTeam partner China Eastern, the home carrier in Shanghai, which opens six more connections

Virgin Atlantic has also moved into Terminal 1 at Shanghai Pudong Airport, where it can use the China Eastern lounges and facilities.

Virgin Atlantic and China Eastern codeshare announced

The codeshare covers flights to Chengdu, Changsha, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xi’an, and will allow Virgin Atlantic passengers to seamlessly connect to these destinations in Shanghai.

In return, Virgin Atlantic will offer China Eastern customers the option to connect to Caribbean and African destinations, subject to government approval.

Bizarrely, China Eastern is still the only SkyTeam partner which cannot be booked with Virgin Points. This has remained ‘in progress’ since Virgin Atlantic joined SkyTeam last Spring and Virgin says it is “expected to follow shortly”.

However, all other SkyTeam benefits apply. I was able to use the China Eastern lounges and SkyTeam Priority services in Shanghai on my trip last year.

@HbH it would be fair to say the work desk is more of a sliver with the new brand standard

Arlanda looks set to be getting an Amex lounge sometime soon for plat card holders.

Anyone know whats happening with the Virgin flights to Seoul? Thanks

    Hamptons are midscale? Oh dear…

They probably are within the first year of opening but once the stag/hen lot get involved, it’s downhill. Like the one opposite Newcastle central.

  • tony says:

That Hampton is the best part of £350 next Wednesday. That is just mad.

  • Spike Spiegel says:

Quick query which I hope is okay in “Bits” – looking to buy a cash ticket one way from SIN -> LHR and am being quoted in SGD. Depending on what card I use there may or may not be a fee involved. From everyone’s experience am I better off paying it in SGD or ringing BA and asking them to convert it to GBP? Following recent changes to Curve we’ve gotten rid of our Curve card.

    • lumma says:

I don’t think you’ll be able to pay in GBP if you book with BA direct. You might find an OTA that will let you pay in GBP.

      • Spike Spiegel says:

Thanks for your advice – will most probably just purchase it direct with BA rather that deal with an OTA and any issues that could arise!

  • Matt B says:

Wuhan. Just where I wanted to go….

    • David says:

Wuhan is getting great demand for tours and visits to the market where first cases originated. Going to be big business for the community for centuries to come.

      • The real Swiss Tony says:

Hmmm…. I can see that going down like a fish milkshake with the Wuhan authorities. Am confident any local promoting a “roots of COVID-19” tour would find themselves being re-educated within a matter of hours.

    • ZW says:

It’s a city with 13 million population. London has 9 million, for reference…
