Amazon is running a new promotion on Uber gift cards.

Via this link, you can purchase an Uber gift card – valid for Uber rides and Uber Eats – for 10% off.

This isn’t as good as some of the 20% deals we’ve seen in the past, but it’s clearly better than nothing. The maximum single gift card you can buy is £150 and the T&C say that you can only take advantage of this offer once, although in the past this hasn’t been applied.

20% off gift cards at Amazon

It works fine as you can see here:

The code is emailed to you – although plastic gift cards via Royal Mail are also available if you want one – and you can quickly add the credit to your Uber account. My order arrived in nine minutes.

Note that the credit can only be used in the UK. This isn’t something you should do if you can’t get Uber where you live but you are planning a trip to, say, the US soon – the credit won’t work there.

You can order here. The offer runs to 25th March.

Uber tries to encourage you to redeem your gift card by putting it into an Uber Money account. This involves a credit search and stops you using it for rail tickets. Instead, add it under ‘Promotional Code’ in the app and it goes onto your balance as it always used to. (If you already have an Uber Money account you are stuck – it will be added to that however you redeeem it, which means no rail ticket redemptions possible.)

The 10% discount is not showing at the checkout page before I press buy. When does the discount show?

  • Gordon says:

Re the BA holidays article, if anyone has an ex uk BA flight and require a positioning flight, EasyJet launch a sale tomorrow morning, 21/3/24, predicted to launch at 9am but could be earlier, with 10M seats available from the uk, 18M total, for flights from 1/12/24 to 2/3/25.

    • WilkoBRFC says:

“Launch[ing] a sale” is slightly misleading. It’s just that flights for those dates are being released for purchase. There’ll be some good value fares knocking around but also some £500+ stinkers.

      • Gordon says:

        Agree to a point!

Easyjet is famous for its dynamic demand pricing model – in other words, when there’s lots of demand for seats you pay more; when there’s less demand you pay less. Usually it can be tricky to predict, and prices are fluid.

However, there’s one point when demand is almost always low… the very second seats are released. This happens in several tranches throughout the year…

So in other words, it’s still cost effective to study pricing and obtain the majority of seats on a release in the first few bucket fares, and not weeks down the line!

Does anyone happen to know if Uber gift credit can be used to buy train tickets through the Uber app?

  • Andrew J says:

It seems that Uber now requires you to set up an Uber money account to load a gift card, and that requires a soft credit search.

    • Rob says:

      No they don’t.

Add your gift card under the ‘promotional code’ box and it works as usual.

  • Gary says:

Also note that Uber no longer allow purchase of train tickets with monies added by gift card. So you can’t stack the 10% credit back on uber trains with this offer.

    • Tom says:

I bought a train ticket using Uber gift card credit this morning.

    • grammer says:

Wrong….I do it all the time!

    • Paul says:

I also do this. Defo works.

    • Pelier says:

Used to do it and and gift card gets added to Uber credits.this time however, it added to Uber money and was unable to use it for trains!!

      • Rob says:

Don’t add it to Uber Money. Add it under ‘Promotional Code’.

        • Barry says:

I just did this – added the gift card code under the “Promotional Code” section and it has automatically added it to Uber Money. Now I can’t use it for trains, which is a shame as I don’t use Uber for anything else!

          • Rob says:

Hmmm. Looks like if you’ve got an Uber Money account it defaults to that regardless. Good reason not to open one!

    • Andrew J says:

Have I effectively opened an Uber bank account by agreeing to Uber Money?

  • Tracey says:

BAH I booked yesterday is £500 (12%) more expensive today!

  • David says:

I’m guessing that as the Uber gift cards work for train tickets, it should be fine for Eats? Doesn’t seem to be any exclusion on the (limited) Terms. Alternatively, is there an expiry date shown after purchase or redemption? (For future Uber rides.)

    • Rob says:

There’s no expiry date showing on my account, although I spend £150 in a month on airport trips so it’s not a concern!

  • David says:

Great, thanks both. (Not Wheely, Rob?!)

    • Rob says:

Wheely is more acceptable when I can write it off as a HfP expense! £95 each way otherwise inc the drop-off charge.
