News in brief:
Get £10 cashback at Waitrose with American Express
Decent American Express cashback offers have been thinner on the ground than usual since Christmas, but a half-decent Waitrose deal has now popped up.
You will receive a £10 statement credit when you spend £100 at Waitrose by 30th April.
The only snag is that the £100 needs to be spent in a single transaction. Smaller spenders may need to throw a couple of gift cards into their trolley – if they are John Lewis / Waitrose ones, they can be used on your next shop anyway.
You need to save the offer to your card – you may (or may not) see it under the ‘Offers’ tab on the Amex website or in the app. As well as my British Airways American Express card, I had it on my American Express Business Platinum card (and again on my wife’s supplementary card).
Registrations are capped at 50,000.
The re-opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport moves closer
The future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport looks a little rosier today after the local authority signed a 125 year lease on the airport site.
The airport closed in October 2022, with the withdrawal of Wizz Air being the final straw after two years of pandemic disruption. However, many observers believed that Peel Group, owners of the site, were not unhappy at its closure. Due to improved road links to the M1, funded by the local authority, the land had great potential as a warehouse and distribution centre.
A tender process to appoint a new operator and investor is already underway, and the Mayor of Doncaster said yesterday that she was confident of signing a deal later in the spring. The project currently has the working title of ‘South Yorkshire Airport City’ although this may not end up being the new trading name.
