Expedia launches a 10% hotel cashback deal with American Express

Expedia has launched a cashback offer for selected American Express cardholders. If targetted, you need to opt in under the ‘Offers’ tab in your American Express app or on the website.
Frankly, it’s more complex than it needed to be.
Not only do you need to opt in, but you need to use a special webpage – expedia.co.uk/amexuk
Once on that page, you can book hotels, flights, car or package holidays. However, the cashback only applies to hotel bookings which must be pre-paid.
You will receive 10% cashback on every transaction, up to a maximum of £100 in total. The wording isn’t entirely clear that it means £100 in total or £100 per transaction but it feels like Expedia means the former.
Remember that hotels booked via Expedia will NOT earn you hotel loyalty points and you will not receive any elite status benefits. This offer works best for independent hotels or chains where you do not collect their points. Remember that many hotels offer exclusive deals via their own websites, especially to logged in loyalty programme members, so don’t assume that Expedia is offering you the best price.
For clarity, you cannot book via the standard Expedia website. You must use the special URL above for the cashback to trigger.
The offer runs to 1st October.
