Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Heathrow Express still offering £10 August tickets – and now with 10 points per £1 on top!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Heathrow Express is running a strong promotion for travel in August, although only a limited number of dates are still available.

You can book a one way ticket for just £10.

Given that children under 15 are free on Heathrow Express, a family of four with two young children could travel to the airport for just £20.

You may remember that we covered this deal last month. What has changed now is that Heathrow Express is ALSO offering 10 Heathrow Rewards points per £1 on all pre-booked tickets bought by 31st August.

This is equivalent to a further 10% return on your spending!

Heathrow Express

The £10 tickets offer can be be booked via this link

Only 25,000 tickets are being released at £10 so you should book sooner rather than later. Best availability now is towards the end of the month.

The offer can be combined with a Railcard discount which takes the price down to £6.60 each way. Details of how to claim a Railcard discount are on this page of the Heathrow Express site.

Get an extra 10% to 15% off with American Express

Heathrow Express is currently offering 15% cashback to many American Express cardholders.

You need to see if you are targeted for this by looking in the ‘Offers’ tab on the Amex website or app for each of the cards that you hold. You need to click ‘Save to Card’ to register.

Depending on which version of the offer you have, you will get 10% to 15% cashback on your next Heathrow Express transaction. There is no minimum spend. The offer can only be used once per registered card.

This could take the cost of your special offer ticket down to as little as £8.50 one way.

Earn Heathrow Rewards points too

You are able to collect Heathrow Rewards points on Heathrow Express tickets booked online – click here to read the details on the Heathrow Express website.   This works on both the main website and the Heathrow Express app.

The standard earning rate is 1 Heathrow Rewards point per £1 spent.

However, until 31st August you will receive 10 Heathrow Rewards points per £1.

They can be redeemed 1:1 for Avios, Virgin Points, Emirates Skywards miles, Heathrow shopping vouchers and various other bits and pieces.

(If you are booking fully flexible Heathrow Express tickets you can book via www.heathrowexpress.com/avios and earn 5 Avios points per £1 spent (see ba.com here) but you cannot combine this with the £10 offer. In any event, 10 Heathrow Rewards points per £1 is more valuable than 5 Avios per £1.)

Full details of the ’10 points per £1′ offer can be found on the Heathrow airport website here. No registration is required.

Does this suggest they’re feeling the loss of custom to the Elizabeth Line or is it just a sale?

    • The Original David says:

Well they used to do £5.50 advance tickets, but dropped them shortly after the Elizabeth line came along. So either they don’t see the Elizabeth line as competition, or the Commercial team at HEX are reading their economics books upside down…

  • Donald says:

No £10 tickets found (Checking at 7.30am on Sunday 4th August).

  • daveinitalia says:

I’d rather pay a little more for the convenience of the Elizabeth line which takes me closer to where I want to go and offers better interchange opportunities

    • u07ch says:

Heathrow should implement express HEX trains to run to Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf would add some competition to City Airport . Watching barely controlled wheeled bags lurch back and forth on the Betty put me off it.

      • Rob says:

Without wishing to state the obvious, if you only have a single track then you can’t run ‘express’ trains because they would quickly catch the train in front.

      • Sam Bland says:

Whereas barely controlled drunk bankers at bars at said destinations is ok?
Anyway, is Canary Wharf even a thing now. Thought it was all back office .
Money is in Mayfair. Maybe extend Heathrow Express with a new tunnel to Mayfair, then to Victoria on onward to Chavwick?

        • Londonsteve says:

Not sure how this relates to the HEX, but anyway. I don’t think it works that way, Mayfair is hedge funds and private equity, the City a mix of brokers, investment banks and insurance while CW is largely banks. Back office these days is largely found in places like Birmingham, Glasgow, Poland and India, not much in London at all.

  • Iain says:

Can’t find any £10 tickets in August. £25 for a single journey really is a disgrace (which is why I never use it).

  • Richard h says:

The Elizabeth line to T5 takes a full 7 minutes longer now than the express, as they stop less frequently on the way. it also avoids the interchange scrum at Paddington

  • Adam says:

Do you get the extra rewards points per GBP if you booked when the offer was announced earlier but are still travelling in August?
