Marriott Bonvoy has launched its new promotion for Autumn 2024, which is only the second global offer we’ve seen all year.

It is very simple – you will earn 2,000 bonus points on every cash stay of 2+ nights. This is doubled to 4,000 bonus points if you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card.

You can register here.

Separate registration is required for the Marriott Bonvoy American Express offer, following the instructions below.

What is the new Marriott Bonvoy promotion?

This is how it works in a nutshell:

  • the promotion runs from 10th September to 26th November
  • registration closes on 12th November
  • you receive 2,000 bonus points per 2+ night stay
  • you will receive an additional 2,000 bonus points if your stay is at an MGM Collection casino resort in the US
  • there is no requirement to pay for your stay with the card
  • you must register separately for the Marriott Bonvoy American Express offer – go the Marriott home page, log in, click on ‘Hello, yourname’ in the top right and click on ‘Promotions’. You can activate it from that page.
  • existing bookings are OK
  • reward nights do NOT count
  • stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy DO count for the main offer but DO NOT count for additional 2,000 points for holding a Marriott Bonvoy American Express card
  • stays at BVLGARI, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Marriott Executive Apartments and owner-occupied rooms at Residence Clubs are not eligible
  • note that you only receive the bonus once per stay – you do NOT receive the bonus every two nights of your stay. You may want to swap hotels every two nights to maximise your bonus.

What sort of return do I get on my spending?

The standard earning rate in Marriott Bonvoy is 10 points per $1 spent, excluding tax. (Some limited service brands earn at half this rate.)

Converted into £, adding in 2,000 bonus points and assuming a Bonvoy point is worth 0.5p (as we do), your return would be:

  • 13.3% on a £150 two night stay before taxes
  • 9.2% on a £400 two night before taxes
  • 8.0% on a £750 two night before taxes

Unsurprisingly, the cheaper your stay, the more valuable (proportionately) is your bonus.

You can boost the numbers above if you register for the Marriott Bonvoy American Express offer too.

Note that new applicants for the Amex cannot register – there was a cut off of 16th August.

If you have Marriott Bonvoy status, your return will be even higher due to your 10% to 75% base points bonus.

Here’s an example

A Platinum Elite member of Marriott Bonvoy doing a £150 + VAT two-night stay and holding a Marrriott Amex would earn:

  • 2,000 base points (10 per $1)
  • 1,000 bonus points as Platinum Elite (50% of base points)
  • 2,000 bonus points for the standard promotion
  • 2,000 bonus points for the Bonvoy Amex promotion

…. for a total of 7,000 points, which we’d value at £35. Not a bad return on a spend of £180 (£150 + VAT). If the member paid the bill with their Bonvoy Amex, which earns 6 points per £1 at Marriott hotels, they’d pocket an extra 1,080 points on top.

Conclusion

This is not a hugely generous promotion for earning bonus points, unless the bulk of your stays are at lower end properties. However, it is certainly worth registering.

If you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card and you’re staying at cheaper hotels, the deal could get interesting. 4,000 bonus points for a low cost two night stay at your local Moxy isn’t bad.

I recommend you click here to register now in case you forget – especially as Marriott is being naughty by closing registration two weeks early on 12th November.

Marriott Amex holders should remember to REGISTER SEPARATELY for the credit card bonus at marriott.com via the ‘Promotions’ section of the website.

I also got the ineligible message but realised that was because I was set up to receive Avios not Marriott points from my bookings (news to me!)

  • Tom says:

I’m still unable to register for the “base” offer, but have managed to register for the Amex offer. Has anyone been able to resolve getting both when they couldn’t initially?
