The St Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort opens

Muscat has seen considerable development over the past few years as it vies to grow its tourist economy. In many ways it is perfect for anyone looking for reliable Middle Eastern weather but turned off by the ostentatiousness of Dubai.
As Rob noted in a review of the Jumeirah Muscat Bay resort last year:
“Muscat, and Oman in general, is nothing like the UAE or Qatar. With the law blocking tall buildings (10-12 stories seems to be the maximum), the majority painted white (the airport was the only glass walled building I saw all week) and the buildings tucked in amongst the mountains – Oman has a LOT of mountains – this certainly isn’t Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha.”
The St Regis is the latest luxury opening and is situated in the Al Mouj development, which the hotel describes as
“One of Oman’s most exclusive neighbourhoods known for its luxurious beachfront living, the exquisite resort is a gateway to the captivating cultural wonders of Oman including the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Al Hajar Mountains, the natural pools of Wadi Shab, and the crystal water of Daymaniyat Islands. “
We featured The St Regis Al Mouj Muscat as one of ten new Marriott Bonvoy openings to look forward to this year and, unlike many hotel projects, it seems to have opened on time!
The resort is now open and taking bookings on its website here.
Oman Air is due to join the oneworld alliance by the end of the year, allowing you to use Avios to fly there directly (BA no longer flies to Muscat) so we may find ourselves reviewing The St Regis at some point.
