Get 15,000 Membership Rewards points with £600 Leading Hotels of the World spend globally

American Express has launched a new deal with the Leading Hotels of the World marketing group.

It’s not the most generous ever seen in terms of the percentage of your spend returned, but the fact that you are paid out in Membership Rewards points will make it attractive to some.

Even better, the offer is valid globally. For once, an Amex hotel cashback offer can be used in North America, South America, Africa and Asia (plus one hotel in Australasia!) as well as Europe.

How does it work?

As usual, you need to see if you are targeted for the deal via the ‘Offers’ tab of the Amex website or app. Remember to check for each card that you own. Click ‘Save to Card’ if you see it.

There is no sign (yet?) of a variant of the offer appearing on cards which do not offer Membership Rewards points, such as the British Airways cards.

Here is the small print:

  • You will earn 15,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend £600 or more
  • Cumulative spend counts
  • The offer runs to 10th December
  • In theory, you need to pay at check-out for the bonus to trigger, not prepay (unless, of course, you prepay your stay and then spend £600 on food, spa etc in the property)

Remember that the 2.99% American Express FX fee does NOT count towards the £600. If you spend exactly £600 in a UK hotel, it triggers the 15,000 points. If you spend exactly £600 in an overseas hotel, it will NOT trigger the £600 because the £600 shown on your statement is actually £582 plus 2.99% FX fee.

The list of participating hotels is here (PDF).

The UK hotel list is quite thin:

Remember that if you are booking a Leading Hotels of the World property there is no requirement to book via the LHW website to get the bonus as long as you pay at check-out.

Some – not many, admittedly – hotels on the list are part of other chains, allowing you to double-dip with elite benefits and points. I spotted Melia, Capella (Global Hotel Alliance), Kempinski (Global Hotel Alliance) and Anantara (Global Hotel Alliance) properties.

Before you book, you should enquire via our luxury hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas about extra benefits he can get you, such as free breakfast, upgrades or a $100 hotel credit. You can contact Emyr via the form on this page of HfP.

PS. Two other new relevant offers have also appeared on American Express cards:

  • Get £100 cashback on £300 spend with The Pig Hotel Group
  • Get £25 cashback on a £250 spend with Harvey Nichols (would double-up with your American Express Platinum credit if the offer appears on your Platinum card)

Unlike SLH (which can be hit and miss), I find LHW properties consistently excel with an old world charm. Quite a few exceptional places in Switzerland particularly. And that sole Australian LHW, The Jackalope, is a great concept well worth visiting from Melbourne.

  • PigLover says:

Do we know if the Pig credit would trigger on dining only without a stay ?
    Cheers.

    • BJ says:

It would trigger if charged through the hotel but not if restaurant is a selarate company with its own billing/payment arrangements.

    • daftboy says:

In my experience Pig Hotels don’t take Amex on site at their properties; so this offer would only work for prepaid spend on the website (and possibly gift vouchers, as they manage those themselves AFAIK)

Last stay at a Pig was late last year, so things may have changed of course.

T&C says, Offer excludes bar and restaurant spend.

  • MT says:

On the Centurion is it £800 for 20,000 points, so ratio is maintained

  • BJ says:

There’also spend £800 get £100 back on Emirates through 14/10.

  • Paul says:

    Amex Platinum

have a Fenwick offer 250/20, an Amex travel offer 300/75, a days out offer 10%, Turkish 700/100. None are hugely appealing
Of the 55 offers available I have registered for just 8 with a further 3 that have recently ended.

    BAPP offers are just rubbish

  • Carole Crookes says:

How do you know if you were one of the first however many thousand to register? Do you have to wait until you check out and look at your statement or is there a way to find out before booking as you may only book for the money back!

  • James says:

so thats a bargain at 0.25p per MR? even if you dont stay or ‘need’ the hotel

  • Al_Wiltshire says:

There’s also potentially 10% at Harvey Nichols for TOTUM card holders. I don’t see why that wouldn’t stack.
