  May I take this opportunity to thank Rob and all of you at the HfP team for your daily insights and wisdom in all things travel.. 2025 promises to be another great year for me, with various destinations across the Globe , starting with a city break with my daughter to Porto in mid January and then to Iceland with Mrs Vickers mid February before the start of 5 big trips. Merry Christmas to everyone.

  Merry Christmas to everyone! Yorkshire is glorious this morning, and the little squirrels are now old enough that we don’t get woken up at 5AM. Life is good even with no travel involved! Wishing everyone else a similarly happy Christmas wherever in the world you are.

        Oh, believe me – 2025 is going to be an absolute banger! The Seychelles for lazing on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches with a book, Japan with my OH to eat all the food, and then 5 weeks staying in some of the best wildlife lodges to be found in Costa Rica and Panama. I am barely able to contain my excitement for next year’s travels! Whereabouts do you have planned @The Savage Squirrel?

          Amazing! We’re never as eclectic as you. In terms of long haul, most of the time I can let myself be away will be taken up by 3 weeks VFFing in various bits of Australia.

  Merry Christmas folks! Thanks to the site for our post-Christmas plans.

  We’re heading to Ivalo with BA on the 27th, thanks to a tip-off here when the flights were launched. Great Avios redemption for 5 of us, at a time when cash Y prices were well over £500 each and haven’t come down at any point.

  And the comments also led us to nettimokki, which I’d never heard of before, but we have a great cabin rental in Saariselkä as a result

  Only piece of the puzzle we’re missing is one lounge visit on the morning of the 27th – as newly demoted silvers we can only guest in 2 of our 3 for breakfast (one is the son’s girlfriend, we can’t really dump her!) so will have to choose our least favourite chile if we can’t wangle the extra space somehow!!

  @Tariq – NYE fireworks from the top of the participating strip hotels is fantastic! The cost of the rooms on that night are not so good! Enjoy.
