Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Welcome, FT Weekend readers!

Good morning! Head for Points is featured in the Financial Times this weekend, on the back page of FT Money, so I know that some FT readers will have popped over to the site today to see what it is all about.

Put simply, Head for Points is the UK’s main news and features site for Avios, other frequent flyer miles, hotel loyalty points and credit card points. We show you how to earn more points and how to spend them most efficiently.

We also run business class and premium economy flight reviews and upscale hotel reviews.

If you read us, and act on some of the tips we highlight, you will (hopefully) have a better travel life! That’s not the sort of thing I would normally feel happy writing, but the conversations I have at our reader events convince me that it is true.

Welcome, FT Weekend readers!

The FT article today covered a lot of ground. Here are links to find out more about the key bits:

Barry’s SAS million points challenge

Barry Collins has been writing a diary for us about the challenge, which was far more messy than he ever imagined. The penultimate article is published today – click here – or you can start from the beginning by clicking here.

This is a great deal for a FREE (for a year) credit card. The points convert to 30,000 Avios and loads of other things.

Finally ….

‘Miles and points’ can be a complex topic BUT it can also be hugely rewarding, bringing you mind-blowing travel experiences for peanuts. The best way to understand it all is slowly, spending a few weeks reading our daily content and seeing what is out there.

One place to start is the ‘Top 10 tips for earning and redeeming Avios’ article which we pubished today.

That said, if you have any burning questions please feel free to post them in our forum (first posts are manually moderated so may take an hour to appear at weekends) or email me at rob [at] headforpoints.com.

PS. On Monday we are launching a competition to win two business class flights to Taiwan, so do come back then!

Well I just hope the comments stay friendlier than those on the FT website/app.

    Welcome FT readers!

    • Milos says:

You prefer the echo chamber of HfP?
“Oh, this is amazing”, “SO worth it!” “Well done, Barry, you deserve a knighthood”

      • Rob says:

Obviously a frequent flyer website will celebrate a crazy act of frequent flying. Frankly I’d be worried if the rest of the world did.

      • CarpalTravel says:

        What.a bizarre post.

  • Andrew says:

Just to add… If I hadn’t been reading hfp all these years I’d have missed out on 6 figures worth of points. Also currently sitting in the Andaz London eating breakfast… Double dipped by booking via hfp>bon vivant/emyr Thomas> Hyatt prive and stacking with £100 off £250 amex spend. The $100 credit paid for dinner last night plus free breakfast this morning. My 5th brand in Hyatt brand explorer too. Thanks for the continued tips Rob!!

  • SXPARKIN says:

Great exposure and well deserved for HfP but the BAEC changes was very high level really and the story was more on ‘points gaming’ and the recent SAS million points challenge..expecting a lot more forensic coverage in the media of this PR disaster for BA and help navigating on options in 2025 especially if the Amex 2 4 1 floats away later this year ! Will see if Clarkson has picked up on it yet in the ST !

    • Rob says:

Er, have you seen me in the Sunday Times today?

      • SXPARKIN says:

No just got the papers hard copy ! Will read it now ! Thanks Rob

      • Sturgeon says:

Is that your comment on Cathy Adams article? As others mention it would be great to see your expert advice on what to do now and which other carriers to focus on (especially oneworld) to get the same benefits.

        • Rob says:

Unfortunately I flew down to Dubai last Monday and won’t be back just yet, so we’re running on fumes for a while longer.

I’m also wary of committing staff time to this too early because the chance of a complete reversal or major change before the end of this week is getting higher.

          • Sturgeon says:

            Fair enough, thanks Rob.

          • Steve says:

This is interesting Rob, and at risk of getting lost here on this thread as the main story nears 3k comments.

Are you able to share what info/feedback has driven your assertion?

          • Rob says:

A lifetime of experience of this sort of thing 🙂
