The Standard hotels join World of Hyatt this month – here’s what you need to know

Last summer, Hyatt announced it was buying The Standard hotel group.

Founded by Andre Balazs, The Standard properties are generally aimed at a young, hip audience, sitting somewhere (in my view) between Marriott’s W and Accor’s The Hoxton brands.

There aren’t many of them, but they are in places where you may want to be including London, Ibiza, Miami, Bangkok, the Maldives, Melbourne ….

The Standard will add a distinctive new brand to Hyatt’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio, slotting in beside its Andaz and Thompson hotels.

The Standard hotels join World of Hyatt

The good news is that The Standard hotels are now being integrated into World of Hyatt, with virtually all properties joining over the next few weeks.

Here is the schedule, including the number of points you’ll need for a standard room redemption (and remember that Hyatt guarantees to have reward rooms available as long as base level rooms remain on sale for cash):

Already bookable:

  • The Standard, Ibiza (Category 6: 21,000- 29,000 points per night)

14th May:

  • The Standard, London (Category 6: 21,000 – 29,000 points per night), image above
  • The Standard, High Line (Category 6: 21,000 – 29,000 points per night), image below
  • The Standard, East Village (Category 6: 21,000 – 29,000 points per night)

21st May:

  • The Standard, Bangkok (Category 2: 6,500 – 9,500 points per night)
  • The Standard, Bangkok Riverfront (Category 2: 6,500 – 9,500 points per night)
  • The StandardX Melbourne (Category 3: 9,000 – 15,000 points per night)
  • The Standard Hua Hin (Category 3: 9,000 – 15,000 points per night)
  • The Standard, Maldives (Category 6: 21,000 – 29,000 points per night)
  • The Standard, Singapore (Category 5: 17,000 – 23,000 points per night)

Opening soon:

  • The Standard, Pattaya (Category 3: 9,000 – 15,000 points per night)
  • The Standard, Brussels (Category 4: 12,000 – 18,000 points per night)

The group’s other brand – Bunkhouse Hotels – will join at a later date.

Standard hotels join World of Hyatt

The value proposition is good. Taking a look at The Standard Ibiza, you can expect to pay around £439 per night in June or July this year for an entry level room, whilst a redemption will set you back 29,000 points. This is 1.5p per point, well above our valuation of 1.2p per World of Hyatt point.

Suite redemptions are also good value. In May, I found suites pricing at 40,000 to 50,000 points or £689 to £1,109 for cash which works out at 1.7p – 2.2p per point.

You can also book suites as points upgrades, paying 6,000 or 9,000 points per night (depending on suite size) plus the cost of a standard room at Best Flexible Rate. These can be outstanding value on a ‘pence per point’ basis and you can even buy the points you needclick here.

(As of the time of typing, there is an IT error with suite upgrades. The website is charging you the standard price of the suite plus points instead of the standard price of a base room plus points!)

Cash nights at The Standard hotels will count towards World of Hyatt elite status.

The Standard, StandardX and Bunkhouse hotels will also count towards a Brand Explorer award. These will all be separate brands for Brand Explorer which is handy – ‘Brand Explorer’ gets you a voucher for a free Hyatt night for every five different brands you visit.

We are hoping to show you what you can expect from The Standard in the coming months via a review or two – stay tuned.

  • Gerry says:

So award nights will not count toward status – unlike at Hyatt’s other brands?

    • Rob says:

      Yes they will.

      • Gerry says:

But the article above says “Cash nights at The Standard hotels will count towards World of Hyatt elite status” — should it then says “both cash and award nights”?

  • Gordon says:

The two in Bangkok look decent redemption prospects.

  • Clark Zhang says:

Does it mean that the StandardX Bangkok Phra Arthit is being rebranded as a ‘standard’ Standard Bangkok Riverfront? Potentially significant for Brand Explorers, as it would leave only one X in the current portfolio.

  • Michael C says:

The one in Hua Hin is attractive, good value and has a great location: nice
    for early evening drinks.
The Singapore one has great reviews although the rooms look small.

Pleased to read this in terms of the Standard, London.

Still have the spend £400/£100 rebate on my Amex which I should be able to use before the 16/06 expiry.

  • Lee says:

Hmm. Does that mean BOTH my BAPP spend £250 get £100 back at World of Hyatt and spend £400 get £100 back at The Standard London would track?

    • Rob says:

No, because The Standard is not on the list of particpating Hyatts.

      • Lee says:

Doh, ok thanks Rob. Sorry should have looked myself (I might have done, but not really serious about going myself)
