My afternoon at SailGP in Portsmouth with ALL – Accor Live Limitless

On Sunday afternoon I was in Portsmouth at SailGP, as the guest of Accor Live Limitless.

We wrote about this a month ago. SailGP – the Formula 1 of sailing – was coming back to the UK for the first time in a few years. Accor was offering great value VIP packages for ALL points.

Each SailGP event takes place over two days, with four races per day (four races on day one, three races and then a grand final for the top three boats on day two). There are 12 national teams taking part.

Use Accor points for VIP access to Emirates Great Britain Sail GP

SailGP is expensive. Tickets for the VIP Premium Lounge were £375 each per day, so £750 for a couple.

Accor offered you TWO tickets for just 6,000 ALL points (Saturday) or 8,000 ALL points (Sunday).

It was a really good afternoon, helped by the return of the sun – but luckily not the recent extreme temperatures.

The Premium Lounge was split into various sponsor areas plus a general area for those who had bought tickets directly. Everyone had access to the same bars and Ollie Dabbous-curated food stalls, with everything – including Champagne Barons de Rothschild (£50+/bottle in UK stores) – included.

The view of the sailing was outstanding, although it is tricky to follow what is going on! This is because the boats have a choice of routes, so it is only when they come together again in the final couple of minutes that you can clearly see who is in front.

There were plenty of screens around to follow the action in detail, including shots from a helicopter that was flying very low over the Solent.

Anyone who stuck around after the 5.30pm finish could enjoy a Pete Tong set. Tom Grennan had played on Saturday.

It is worth considering for an Accor Live Limitless redemption next year. The main grandstand was sold out – 10,000 people were there – so whilst SailGP had gone under my radar it clearly has a big UK following.

We’ll let you know when tickets are available for 2026. Accor is an investor in the French SailGP team so it will be a long term partnership.

Interestingly or possibly uniquely, the Logan Air flight I have booked to Aberdeen in Sept was cheaper booked as a BA flight on ba.com than on the Logan Air website. So beware……

  • BlairWaldorfSalad says:

Re Jersey, I was looking at Saturday’s departures list on the airport’s website and there were all sorts of interesting destinations listed for BA. Faro and Palma if I recall, and another I forget. Is that a case of the same plane landing at LGW and taking off onwards?

    • planeconcorde says:

They are charters. The last two years they have used LCY based aircraft.

      • Richie says:

They are charters operated by BACF, they don’t have BA codeshare flight numbers, so no avios and no nTPs. The other destination was Ibiza. On Friday evening one aircraft does LCY-FAO, overnights and does FAO-JER on saturday morning and then JER-FAO. Similarly another aircraft does LCY-PMI, PMI-JER-PMI. For Ibiza it’s LCY-IBZ-JER-IBZ starting saturday morning.

        • Richie says:

BTW BACF do tweak these patterns to also include other charters from IOM and GCI to AGP, FAO, IBZ and PMI through the summer season.

I was lucky enough to get 2 tickets of the Accor VIP for sail gp on Saturday all thanks hfp! We also did not realise how huge ithe event would be. We had a wonderful time in the sun with the best views of the Solent seen through a rosé window and it helped when team GB keep making those wins. I thought the food and drinks were really special and the music brought a real fun party atmosphere.

  • Whisper2 says:

It was my first time at the SailGP, but we had the ordinary grandstand ticket. The event was great fun, and I would certainly recommend it.
Is there any way to get Accor points if you don’t do a lot of hotel stays?

    • Rob says:

You can convert Avios (in Qatar) to Accor at 4 to 1. Bad value except for a redemption like this.

      • Whisper2 says:

Yikes , 4:1! The redemption price for this from Accor seemed very low. Do you think it was just a last minute sale to fill the spaces? Now with the positive coverage they might double/triple the rate?

  • Talay says:

We did the wetsuit and laundry cleaning for the team when they visited Southampton the other day.

In and out, quick turnaround, all to get them ready for this race series.

  • ChasP says:

“Each SailGP race takes place over two days, with three races per day.”
Can you have a race of races ? shouldn’t that first race be series or event

    • Rob says:

Obviously you can have a number of races, with the scores aggregated.

    • dundj says:

Further point, SailGP has four races per day. Four fleet races on day one, and three fleet races plus the final on day two. Unless weather conditions curtail racing that is.
