News in brief:

Earn double Avios on Loganair flights

Having adopted Avios as its loyalty currency earlier this year, Loganair is running a ‘double Avios’ bonus promotion when you book cash flights.

The offer runs for the next four days, until midnight on Tuesday 19th August. It is valid for travel from today onwards.

You need to log in to your Loganair Loyalty account to book. Avios will be credited automatically after you travel. Note that the terms and conditions say the offer cannot be credited retroactively.

Loganair awards Avios based on your ticket type, with all routes earning the same fixed amount:

Cheap business class flights to KL, Hanoi and Melbourne

Chinese airlines are often the cheapest way of flying to Australia and the Far East.

Luxury Flight Club has just uncovered a few good options for anyone heading to South East Asia or Melbourne, and all from Heathrow. You don’t need to take a positioning flight to somewhere in Europe.

Here are the deals:

  • Kuala Lumpur from £1,288
  • Hanoi from £1,381
  • Melbourne from £1,989

Melbourne for less than £2,000 is particularly good, with the best deals available in November.

All flights are operated by China Southern via Guangzhou. China Southern is a British Airways joint venture partner and you earn Avios based on miles flown, even when you book under a China Southern flight number.

Don’t expect a world-changing business class experience: the reason to book these is on price, rather than customer experience. The cabins on the Boeing 787 (flown on the Heathrow sector) are dated, although they do feature all-aisle access lie flat seating.

Here is an example I pulled up to show that the Melbourne fare does exist, although availability is tight. You’ll have far more luck finding the Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi fares.

Wizz Air launches flights from Glasgow to Italy

Wizz Air has announced two new routes from Glasgow to Italy. Both will launch at the start of the winter season on 27th October.

It will offer direct flights from Glasgow to Milan and Rome. Milan flights go to Malpensa which is the less central airport, further out of the city than Linate.

It will operate thrice weekly with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, operated by an A321neo which we have reviewed here.

It will be the first non-stop service to Milan from Glasgow. The Rome route will compete with Jet2 which operates it twice weekly, also Mondays and Fridays.

One-way fares to both cities start from £26.99 and can be booked on the Wizz Air website.

It’s likely the flights have been made possible by the closure of Wizz Air’s Abu Dhabi base and the redistribution of aircraft. Wizz Air flights from Gatwick to Medina and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia also recently took off, although 6+ hrs on Wizz Air may prove to be a tough sell.
