How to earn 400 Avios in Spain and Portugal with the Cabify taxi app

If you’re heading to Spain, Portugal, Chile, Brazil or Mexico soon it is worth remembering that you can earn Avios with the Cabify taxi and ride-hailing app.

You will get a 400 Avios bonus with your first ride.

Cabify was founded in Spain but has since expanded internationally – you can now also use the app in several countries in Latin America including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Uruguay

Earn Avios with Cabify

Avios can be earned in Spain, where it operates in most major cities, as well as Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Portugal.

The app can be downloaded from the Apple and Google stores.  I used it a couple of times in Barcelona pre-Covid and the Avios always posted OK.

How many Avios do you earn with Cabify?

You will earn a bonus of 400 Avios for your first trip.

The standard earning rate is:

  • 1 Avios for every €1 spent in Spain in the following categories: Cabify, Cuanto Antes, Cabify Promo, Cabify Kids, Cabify Executive, Extra Comfort, Cabify Group, Taxi Access and Taxi fixed Price
  • 3 Avios for every €1 spent in Spain in the following categories: Cabify Corporate, Cabify Eco, Cabify Directivos and Cabify Airport
  • 1 Avios per 2km travelled in Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Portugal in the following categories: Lite, Executive

You can earn in either The British Airways Club or Iberia Club. It is the same earning rate in both schemes.

If you credit to Iberia, you will also earn Iberia Club tier points at the rate of 1 tier point for every 10 Avios earned. The sign-up bonus does not earn tier points. You do not earn tier points if you credit your rides to BA.

You need to link your British Airways Club or Iberia Club account in the Cabify app by selecting: My Account / Points.

The information on this deal is difficult to verify:

  • it is not mentioned on the UK version of ba.com

It is possible that you can also earn in other countries where Cabify operates, as I can’t find a single central point with all the details.

    You say BA points can’t be earned but in the app’s settings it appears as an option. Is it best to ignore that?

        When updating historical articles doesn’t it make sense to go through the app and check what you’ve written is still true?         It’s not just Spain it’s Mexico and Chile too (Other countries listed as not supported for Avios)

        People rely on this site for up to date info but a lot of times it’s just reheated slop.

          Unfortunately you are quoting wrong information. The Cabify Q&A are woefully out of date. Not only does the page you linked still reference Iberia Plus / BAEC, it also says you can collect in countries outside Spain. This has not been true for some time.

          Let me explain why we said it was Iberia Club only. The UK version of ba.com does NOT show Cabify as a partner. The Spanish version of ba.com (ba.com/es) DOES show Cabify as a partner as someone helpfully flagged below. When I looked at ba.com to see if it was there, I obviously got the UK version and didn’t see it. This has now been updated.

          Irrespective, HfP articles are generally two way streets. What we write is often a first draft and we evolve it based on reader feedback, so when the article is updated in a couple of years it is more accurate than it was before. Admittedly that is not the case here but that is generally how we operate.

      One thing I have noticed about Cabify is that the drivers love sending messages asking your exact location for pick-up – in Spanish.

      Recently I decided the quote was too high, so decided to walk, but eventually a driver called me, so it seems like a potential issue with the UI, if it’s still easy to request a ride when you don’t want to. Cost me €6 to cancel

    Is Uber not in Spain? I haven’t been to Spain for probably over a decade. I have been working my way to Europe steadily by going far flung places first. I have toured a few countries in Europe but have left the countries that would require a lot of time. Spain has too much to see/do. Was going to probably go next year if the workers finally finish the main work on Sagrada familia. The surrounding areas will finish in late 2030s but main church is supposed to be done next year.

    I tried to use this about 18 mths ago, but couldn’t register due to not having a Spanish mobile number (I believe required to receive a setup confirmation SMS.) From comments above sounds like others haven’t had this issue?

      I have had this issue a few times and I either had to switch to a local SIM card or contact support, probably the local SIM that sorted it for me.

    Tried using while we were in Argentina earlier this year and not once was it able to get us a driver. I tried on at least 6-8 different times in Buenos Aires. Always had to fall back to Uber every time. Uber was more expensive but if you can’t get a car, Cabify is not much good.

    Is SMS validation working again for UK mobile numbers? It worked when launched, then for at least a year, a UK number would fail to receive the SMS validation code, preventing sign-up. Has anyone else successfully signed up in the last few months? Maybe it’s finally fixed.

    (I signed up before validation ‘broke’ a couple of years ago so can’t test it myself).

    A couple of other bits in case it helps others…

    The pre-quoted Cabify fare includes Spain motorway tolls (e.g. BCN to Sitges) – but sometimes drivers try to wrongly ask passengers to pay cash for them in addition.

    Pickup from BCN T1 (BA) is at departures (not arrivals) opposite door to Vueling check-in desks one carriageway away from the terminal.
