Your chances of making the second flight rely on it being delayed, and on travelling hand baggage only. If you have checked bags there is no way you will be on the second flight.

BA haven’t interlined across separate PNRs for several years, although there are occasional reports of it being allowed.

And I’m sure there’s absolutely no operational reason why they can’t, it’s just BA being BA.

I had a lovely Delta agent at PHX offer to interline from a cash economy ticket to my Virgin UC miles ticket the other day. I didn’t ask, she offered when I explained why my bag was a bit overweight. She even let me off with 4 pounds of excess after I transferred 6 to my second bag.

Surely it’s because if they interline your luggage and mess up then it’s a cost for them whereas if you transfer your own luggage and mess up then it’s a cost for you. They could do it, but would either need to charge a fee (complex and confusing for customers) or increase all ticket prices (which would cost money in lost business).
