I don’t think anybody was deliberately being hostile. It’s just a huge no-no from pretty much anyone who is into miles.

Think of the responses here as being similar to asking a friend if it’s okay to drink and drive. “No way!!!”
If you have a bunch of miles in an account with an airline you can’t ever see yourself using again then it’s probably low risk to sell them but never ever buy – you could get stranded.
