As AJA as said you are confusing status recognition of your BAEC status across other OW airlines with signing up to different OW airlines FF programme and starting from scratch. Normally you would only want to be part of one scheme and seek recognition of your status across airlines, but with Qatar (and for similar Reasons with Iberia, Vueling and AirLingus), as it now use Avios as miles currency, and it can be linked to your BAEC account, it offers additional Avios earning opportunities as well as additional revenue seat to spend your Avios
