@AmaD if you are just hoping a First Class reward seat comes up you can certainly pay the change fee and pay the extra Avios, but that isn’t strictly an upgrade. That is buying a new seat and cancelling the existing booking, you will end up with a new PNR and a new ticket. An upgrade is you buy a seat in one cabin and then change the booking, but keep your existing reservation. And for that to happen you can normally only upgrade to the next cabin from what you originally booked.
