I tend to do this simply so that if the hotel is duff or is shoddy with elite recognition I have an early exit path after 5 nights. You have little to lose other than a risk of the hotel not linking the reservations so you can remain in the same room. This can be overcome by contacting them in advance to give them the 2 reservation numbers.
In that case isn’t it better to book the individual nights as the first two nights and that way you can bail on the first day if need be and not have to suffer inferior/not as described accommodation – or would that still lose you points due to the 48 hour cancellation policy?
