I started a tab on my tracking spreadsheet to spot patterns, basically agree with what was said here, nothing before the Plat SUB end.

I think the 70k took HFP by surprised but demonstrate a new high that Amex is willing to pay so I think you can expect a repeat but not till later. I have not kept long enough record to say whether it will be Gold first but it is the only card without a bonus for a while.

It comes down to will you kick yourself for not having waited, even if it was several months away.
I basically think you should almost never apply for an amex without an uplift, the number of people in comments saying they applied the day before the uplift is announced always feels sad.

Not sure that it was actually Amex paying for the (full) 70k, hence the comment about it taking them by surprise. I suspect BA will have contributed something towards it.
