Can you try opening a N26 EUR account in Ireland? Using some kind of address proof from there if needed. Assuming they accept cheques.
What amount is this cheque for? £28 is quite high. The cost of the sender having a EUR bank draft issued and sent to you would likely be lower. Or a transfer. Not too late to rip up the cheque via mutual agreement and find an alternative
I went with N26 when Ulster bank pulled out and I just checked the app – they don’t support cheques I’m afraid. Nor do Revolut. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a cheque IRL, but are you able to get someone you trust in Ireland to cash it in for you and send you the money? If it doesn’t say “account payee only” or similar, I ‘m pretty sure that is allowed
