I’m not sure about the price comparison Thailand vs Mexico, but Mexico has got a little bit more expensive as the peso has been remarkably strong owing to the economy benefiting from near-shoring. November is a great time to go as the weather should be good and hot, but not too hot or humid and it will be less crowded until the school holidays start a week or so before Christmas. The days are relatively short vs southern hemisphere at this time of year.

Where to go is more difficult. I’m not so keen on the Caribbean coast, but you can fly direct to Cancún and there are more mega resort style hotels to choose from vs the Pacific coast which has a few resorts, but is generally rather less flashy and much less crowded. There are plenty of flights from US gateways to various cities on both coasts. On the Pacific, smaller very Mexican family type resorts but without big hotels include places like Zihuatanejo in Guerrero and in Oaxaca province, Puerto Escondido, Mazunte or Huatulco. Puerto Vallarta / Punta Mita or the relatively new Riviera Nayarit is perhaps a compromise as there are some more modest sized resort style hotels.

On the east coast, places like Mérida (and nearby beaches) and Campeche are a whole lot more Mexican and quieter than Cancún and the so called Mayan Riviera while being equally near the big archaeological sites. It’s quite a while since we did Mexico with tiny children but they were very friendly, even when one had chicken pox while we were there.
