On swapping seats my experience is mixed. Some cabin crew absolutely refuse to allow it while others say you must be in assigned seat for take-off and landing but can swap at cruising altitude. Experience eill vary by airline policy and crew-observance. In your case I’d chance airport cash upgrades.
