The terms did change, but I’m pretty sure, it was almost the opposite of this; I.e. you only have to pay the taxes using any Amex, whereas previously it was that you had to pay with the card that earned the voucher (even though it was not enforced). I don’t think there was any mention of existing bookings being affected.
Maybe ask them to point you in the direction of the terms which state that the booking will be cancelled if you cancel your card? Also, if you want to cancel the card, contact Amex not BA.
