If you are landing at HKG and wanting to go straight to Macau it makes no sense to take a ferry unless the extremely limited service from HKG (airport) lines up directly with your flight times.

Last time I checked, the ferry service had been massively reduced. If you need to avoid entering HK for visa reasons the potentially long layover might work but otherwise there’s now a very frequent bus service direct from the airport over the new bridge/tunnel combo.

Practically nobody who would be visiting Macau needs to avoid entering HK for “visa reasons”, but it would certainly be more convenient to do so, which comes at a cost.

The airside bus service from HKG to the Macau HZMB Port is several times the price of the regular bus, has limited seating (although it can be booked in advance at the risk of losing your place because of airline delay) and at times only runs hourly. https://www.macauhkairportbus.com/service.php?lang=en

However to get the regular bus across the bridge (which operates on a fill up and go basis) you need to make your way from HKG to HK HZMB Port landside, which can be done by local bus or perhaps by blue taxi.
