As I said above, normally you need to have the same ratio on both legs for BA to agree to refund the 50%, though you may get an inexperienced or amenable agent – I wouldn’t bank on this though.
But your main issue may be that which was also pointed out earlier – if you’re not cancelling the whole trip, in which case you could rebook the whole thing online (but with the standard surcharges), you need to book your inbound at T-355 to be guaranteed getting half the avios back.
