It hasn’t happened in the 12 years that HfP has been running so I suspect you’re looking at 2010 when it last happened, at a guess.
Not sure if that counts as ‘occasionally’ in your book 🙂
The only wild card is that Qatar Airways is keen to get UK residents opening Qatar Airways Privilege Club accounts so its possible they could do something (albeit Amex probably wouldn’t promote it, as they wouldn’t promote the Virgin offer).
Could a co-branded credit card work or is that just not feasible in the UK without the backing of Amex?
