Hi all and happy new year!
Recently redeemed 241 voucher LHR-SYD – 380k total Avios (I’m assuming this higher cost is due to doing BA11/15).
We’ve been charged £2k total taxes (£1k per person), and can’t figure out why. Doing a dummy booking for this exact route looks like it should be around £649 per person.
Any ideas what’s going on here? Thanks.
Yes.
You aren’t flying LHR to SYD.
You are flying:
LHR-SIN (reward flight saver fees = £625); and
SIN-SYD (reward flight saver fees = £375)
As you have pointed out, they also charge you more Avios booking as two flights rather than as a oner.
Reward flight saver fees for LHR-SYD are £775 each.
Remember the reward flight saver fee is a number made up by British Airways. They charge what they want to.
Basically it sucks as it is a lot more to stopover in Singapore.
Thanks for explaining! Was getting confused as the journey summary page was showing £649, before jumping to £1k on the next page.
Although it costs more, IMHO BA 11 then 15 is the best way to travel to Sydney (with BA).
You have a nice amount of time to stretch your legs in Singapore, and visit one or two lounges.
Enjoy your trip.

Thanks good to know, makes the higher cost a little easier to swallow!
