Hi all, your wise advice requested please. I’m looking to fly with a friend to a US destination not served directly by BA, but by a BA partner. So I would fly BA from LHR to X and then from X to Y on American. I know I could book LHR-X with a 2-4-1 and then X-Y as separate avios tickets, but then I can’t interline my luggage and I’m not protected if the first flight is delayed. Would BA let me book that whole itinerary on a single PNR, including using the 2-4-1 for the first leg, if I call up and ask? I am BA Gold in case that would make a difference. If not, what is my best option?
When I tried this the answer was ‘no’ and I don’t think the policy has changed. BA are hopeless at interlining baggage even on paid tickets.
I’ve pinned non-BA flights onto the end of a 2-4-1 before, it’s a risk, but if the X – Y is short-ish and cheap/frequent you can probably handle the costs if it goes wrong. I’d personally leave at least three hours plus the Minimum Connect Time at airport X. Don’t try this with a Xmas eve arrival in the states/lunar new year in Asia etc.
why the secrecy with X and Y?
You’ll get far brtter and specific advice if you tell us. Some airports are better than others and it may be possible to use the bacg drop desks just after customs rather than the main ones to check in again.
Thank-you both. I wil probably plan in overnight stops in that case. A couple of nights out in an interesting city isn’t a disaster.

X and Y could both change so I was looking for general advice. Probably SEA and ANC at the moment.
