Forums Other London life £5 to get dropped off at the Sofitel Gatwick!

So am due to be staying at the Sofitel Gatwick soon, and better still, I can get a lift down. However I just thought to check what the situation was and ye, you need to pay Gatwick Airport £5 to be dropped off at the hotel as a hotel guest. Now I can see why this would be a PITA to carve out, but I’d have thought the hotel would be willing to take the reg number on check in and settle it that way…

Presume I’m not missing anything here?

I’m guessing that the airport has no idea, once you’ve driven past the cameras, whether you’re going to the hotel or not – and if it was free to drive to the hotel, people would drop off there to avoid paying the £5 for dropping off at the entrance ….

But when I check in – so make a transaction for >£200 – it wouldn’t be beyond the pale to think that Sofitel *might* have a deal with Gatwick where they can give one reg per room per night for drop offs. Total hit to Gatwick (or the Sofitel) would be, at a guess, £100-£200 a day as I can’t imagine that many people fall into this cohort.

I mean i’ll just suck it up for the convenience, but it feels like it erodes the supposed premium proposition of the Sofitel

Fair point – I guess I should be thankful that I’m not being charged an extra fee by Sofitel ontop of the Gatwick one. Shame there’s no 5% discretionary service on the bill as at least I could have taken that off and felt like I was coming out ahead….

I stayed at the Premier Inn Gatwick recently and they took my registration number to ensure the £5 fee was waived.

Must admit, that’s what I would have expected…
