Forums Payment cards American Express 60,000 Avios bonus for BA Premium Plus

I’m going on the basis that this is correct and recorded somewhere

Apparently Amex chat seem to think i can cancel as I’m with the cooling off period and then re apply via ba as it won’t count as having had a card in the last 24 months , seems to good to be true !

This also cannot be a case of mis-selling because no advice or selling is involved and you have to acknowledge that expressly during the application process.

Amex is selling the customer access to a credit card in return for a non-refundable £250 per year. If an agent of amex has stated (and it can be proved via a chat history etc) that the cancel/reapply as above makes the customer for eligible for the new bonus which “is more than enough for return flights to hit the dunes of Dubai or the rooftop bars of New York”, and then it transpires Amex denies the bonus, then I assume most reasonble people would conclude that not getting that benefit for something that was sold is somewhat more than an inconvenience.

Companies and regulators afford the most enormous protections and opportunities for redress to us in this country, but customers are also expected to play their part and accept some responsibility for their actions.

And I expect that a customer specifically creating a conversation to ask an agent of the compmany the question and being advised in the affirmative would exactly be them playing their part and being responsible.

I understand that you don’t like it, but that’s just the way it is. The person calling to ask for their closure date isn’t even a customer for that product so Amex has even less responsibility. This week I, and probably many others, received an email from Amex telling me I had 888,888 MR points on my PRG with suggestions for spending them. Can I hold them to give me the c.400k extra? No, of course I can’t even though I have a formal communication from Amex.

You also refer again to “selling” but that has a specific meaning in financial services regulations that don’t apply here. An applicant for an Amex card is required to warrant that the product meets their needs/is suitable for them so that it is the customer that has selected the product and it hasn’t been “sold” to them. I don’t know why the system Amex uses in the US whereby it tells you before you complete the application form whether you are eligible for a SUB isn’t used in the UK, but until they do, an applicant is exclusively responsible for making sure they are eligible. It’s only the most amateur of churners that risk being caught out!

In my notes I’ve got Dec 23 as my 2 years but the agent has said February 21 I cancelled it which surely isn’t right. That’s why I was asking as it makes me eligible now.

I’ve seen this kind of discrepancy from Amex before when I unintentionally ended up with more than one login.
Once in the past a new card activation forced me to create a new account with Amex.
The chat agent could only “see” cards that were associated with the currently logged into account and suggested a closure date which was completely different to what I knew to be true.
You might have better luck over the phone where they could potentially see multiple Amex accounts.

My partner has applied. She was only a supplementary before.

Logged into her BAEC, clicked link at bottom. Opened page on AMEX for 60K, applied, got accepted.

We registered her card today but only the tracker for the Comp Voucher is showing.. is this normal? I remember mine showing immediately.

I have just cancelled my Amex Bonvoy card to “free up space” for the BAPP (I still hold the Platinum card, and a cashback one I rarely use). Is there a recommended period of time to wait before applying for the BAPP, i.e. is there any reason to hold off a couple of weeks instead of just applying straight away?

It happens sometimes. If you contact Amex via chat, they can confirm the tracker’s existence in the background.

    No need to wait.

as for expiry date question, have you checked your emails? I have gotten a cancellation email from both Amex and Barclays on account closures.

I’m considering applying for this for the 60k bonus with 5k spend. I have not had a BA Amex in many years but I have had the gold Amex card within 2 years.
I am eligible for the BA Amex bonus ?

    Thanks

Hi – on the point above, I’ve seen on here a few times that you are eligible for the 60k bonus on the BA premium if you have the Amex gold. I applied today and accepted but just looking at the terms and conditions it states the following

British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card
    4. Offer available to new Cardmembers only. Introductory offers are not available if you currently hold or have held any personal American Express Card product in the past 24 months.

Would that not mean the Amex gold? I don’t want to have applied for the card and pay the yearly fee to not be eligible for the bonus! Thanks

Those terms are showing under point 1 for me, which only applies to the free card. Also you may want to change your user name, so your email doesn’t get harvested.

I rang Amex today to see if I’d be eligible for this bonus offer as I cancelled my previous BA card around 2 years ago but can’t remember the exact date.
When the agent was pulling up my card history, he noted that I cancelled an Amex Platinum card recently and based on that, I was very bluntly told I won’t be eligible for the SUB.
I’ve lost track of these SUB rules, have they changed? I thought you’d only be ineligible for the SUB on a BA Amex if you’ve previously held either of the BA Amex cards (black or blue) in the last 24 months?

Correct. You need the exact date you cancelled your last BA Amex. Ideally you will have kept the cancellation letter at the time. If the agent gives you the wrong date you’ll have no recourse.

you are correct, unless of course this particular agent was working off any new rules that might be coming into force shortly of course…

that’s doubtful tho and its more than likely just the usual ineptitude from lots of the amex c/s

Applied for one of these on Friday, and received an application pending email. I am retired and so listed my 2 pensions and then added in monies received via an investment portfolio to meet the 35K. I (rather stupidly) assumed I would be automatically authorised. But have had to send off a lot of financial information.

Presumably as I applied before the deadline, even if my card arrives after the 10th, I will still get the 60,000 Sub which is the only reason I applied for it? Annoyed with myself as should have got the standard BA AMEX card not the premium plus as the spend threshold is easier, but I thought it only gave 50000.

Has anyone else been in this situation and received the MRs?

I applied for the card through the BAEC link and received it last week. There is not tracker showing in my app (except the companion voucher one). I checked with Amex c/s and they said they can only see the usual 25k offer on the card, as the bonus offer is run by BA. Checked with BA, but they have no visibility either.
Is there a way to confirm that the 60k offer was actually applied on the application?

Happy to report P2 had the 60k Avios applied the day after reaching £5k. The tracker never showed up.
