Am I over thinking my options, I have Avios flights for Cancun end November, 7 nights, I’m planning on staying AI at Hilton Cancun at 95,000 PN, I have the points now in my account, my question is – is it worth me booking 5 nights (getting 5for4) and then 2 single nights, thinking in case some nights reduce in price, or would that complicate my stay?
I tend to do this simply so that if the hotel is duff or is shoddy with elite recognition I have an early exit path after 5 nights. You have little to lose other than a risk of the hotel not linking the reservations so you can remain in the same room. This can be overcome by contacting them in advance to give them the 2 reservation numbers.
Advantages are greater flexibility if travel plans change, and potentially to rebook at lower rate as you mention. Disadvantages are that you may have to visit desk twice to have room keys revalidated but not always necessary. In tgeory you could have to switch roims but this has never happebed to me at any hotel ecer, and you can contact the hotel in advance to draw their attention to your bookings if that makes you more comfortable. You will get only 1x Diamond MyWay 1k points even if you split the booking in three.

In that case isn’t it better to book the individual nights as the first two nights and that way you can bail on the first day if need be and not have to suffer inferior/not as described accommodation – or would that still lose you points due to the 48 hour cancellation policy?

Why wait 5 nights, book the 2 nights first so you can leave straight away if it’s crap. Depends on the prices of course
