Forums Payment cards American Express £75 off £300 IHG spend offer back

  • 412 posts

Happy days. Been waiting and waiting for this. Appeared just in time for my trip to Germany this weekend…

Appeared 2 weeks after £350 Intercontinental booking which I THOUGHT had been paid upfront in full.

It Appears I can cancel and lose deposit- which isnt specified in my booking email, and Credit card statement isn’t showing any payments taken…

    Would you cancel and rebook?

Will this offer trigger if I book an IHG hotel through Expedia/booking.com?

Damn, I get 20% off with Expedia, was hoping for a tidy deal.

It’s not clear if you have been charged already. If not, just sit tight and the deal will credit when the charge hits.

Offer is on a different card to the one I booked with.
No charges applied to card yet.
    Same rate appears available.
It was a “book early and save, with breakfast” rate.

I think I’ll need to prompt them to take payment as the stay is in Jan.

I think this offer is an in-store only, so would need to be a refundable booking then charged upon arrival at the hotel?

It can be used for pre-paid bookings as long as the hotel takes payment. I’m sure there’s another thread on this offer today?!

Anyway, I’m about to try it with a stay in Valencia in Feb so I’ll report back.

It might be worth a call to IHG to ask them if you can “update the credit card you have on a reservation to a different one”.

I’d be interested in how you get on as I have a booking I made nearly a year ago and the card I used to make the booking has been cancelled since then. The rate requires a deposit to be taken a month in advance of the stay, so I’ll need to update the card. I imagine IHG can do it.

Weirdly this is on none of my ‘premium’ cards but on my ARCC and Supp Free BA Card, not on my Gold/Plat/BAPP.

Call the main booking number and they can easily amend the card details on an existing reservation. Sightly perversely the hotel can’t, as it’s in the central booking system.

I’ve been caught out before using advance payment rates on this offer. Hilton seem much more flexible.

Hilton just take the payment immediately these days, so quite reliable to use the offer on Advance rates. IHG seem to take payment anything from within 24 hours to a few days before the stay, IME.

It helps if I download and read the accepted locations, since my hotel isn’t listed.
However, I will see if they will switch the card on file. I don’t want to meddle too much as I booked this via the eStore and therefore I don’t want to end up with 0 Amex cash back AND 0 Avios back.

If it’s not on the list, I really wouldn’t bother doing anything at all. As you say, you risk losing elsewhere…

    Only on platinum cards

    Not BAPP

Whereas Hilton was on BAPP, but not Platinum.

    Very annoying!

I have both Hilton and IHG offers on my BAPP. Perhaps it will appear on more BAPPs over the coming days depending on sign-ups?

Yep, it can appear later. The IHG offer wasn’t on my BAPP card, just the plat. But player 2 got a BAPP, after the offer went live and the offer appeared yesterday.
    Amex moves in mysterious ways.
