Forums Other Destination advice A few hours in San Francisco

I land in San Francisco Airport on an internal flight at 10.45am and have a BA flight back to the UK at 16.45pm the same day.

So my question is can I check my bags in for the flight home once I have landed in SFO and would traffic permit me to have time for a lunch in the city ?

You’d be cutting it fine but it’s possible.

Assume you’re out of the airport by 11.45, in town by 12.30, you’d need to be back at SFO by 15:00 at the absolute latest asumming boarding is 16:00

    So 2 hours for lunch

You’d be better off staying local if you want to leave the airport for lunch. Some lovely places to eat / drink in Burlingame on Burlingame Avenue. Only a 10 min taxi ride away.

I haven’t flown from SFO since pre pandemic but if it is as it was then, BA has its own check-in desks and these are not staffed until a couple of hours before the flight or so.

Leaving luggage at the airport is pricey and more hassle. Unless you are wanting to meet someone I wouldn’t bother personally. Particularly as downtown San Francisco is not a nice place to be any more. It was bad enough pre pandemic and by all accounts has got much worse.

So def stay local if you do decide to do this.

+1 that the most pleasant parts of downtown San Francisco are now its more northerly reaches – which is even further away for your purposes.

    Burlingame is nice.
    Millbrae is acceptable too.
There’s a small bayfront park just across the water from the airport, although there’s not much there for eating other than airport chain hotels.

I agree its much too risky to try going downtown to SF. Worth checking out http://www.thesixfifty.com for things to do/places to eat in the area
