Yesterday, I was tempted to fly Upper Class London to San Francisco in mid December. 47,000 points per person.
I slept soundly overnight, then looked this morning: 350,000 points per person.
I understand, “You snooze, you lose” – but that was a very expensive snooze.
If you see a bargain snap it up immediately – never think about it.
Also once you’ve spent your money / points don’t go revisiting it unless it’s very cheap to cancel and rebook.
Keep your eye on it, good chance it will go back down. I’ve seen similar on the same route in December recently. 47000 to 500000 but it was back down to 47000 two days later

Thank you. Very, very useful advice.
I looked again on Sunday morning, and was able to book Upper to SFO for 50,000 points per person.
Very happy.
Great result. I’m soon to play Virgin roulette by using the Barclays voucher outbound for April next year, then hoping that there’s a reasonably priced return on VS from MCO/ATL/JFK in my future …

Pleased for you.
I managed to book 2x for SFO in Feb for 41k each way, per pax. Total 164k.
Very annoyed that they have removed the A350 from the route for Winter 2025. Not sure if it wasn’t more a bait and switch in the first place.

This is the typical way that Virgin operate.
BA is gradually improving its fleet. Whilst this takes a long time, if BA change an aircraft, then it’s generally an improvement. Not always, but generally.
However, the Virgin fleet is “static” – and the A350 rotates on and off various routes over time. In addition, Virgin drop destinations more frequently than other airlines. I’ve had flights from Austin and Shanghai cancelled during the last two years.
